NOCAL Debunks Vehicles Purchase Misinformation, LACC Investigations-Warns Public, Media Against Spreading False Information
MONROVIA – The Management of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) wishes to categorically refute the false and inaccurate claims circulating on social media that it purchased vehicles for US$55,000 each for its vice presidents, supposedly exceeding the National Budget threshold of US$45,000.
In a press statement issued February 16, 2025, NOCAL clarified that the allegations are factually inaccurate and baseless with the intent to misinform the general public.
“We want to state unequivocally that the cost of the KIA Seltos Model vehicles assigned to the Vice Presidents is US$32,500.00 each. This is well below the established government of Liberia threshold. This information can be independently verified with the authorized KIA dealership in Monrovia, where you can visit their showroom located at 18th Street and Tubman Boulevard. At no point did NOCAL pay US$55,000 for a single vehicle for any Vice President.
“NOCAL would also like to address the erroneous claim that the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has confirmed that all vice presidents of NOCAL were involved in the alleged financial mismanagement of the company. This assertion is not only misleading but also factually incorrect. The LAC is currently conducting an investigation, and it is vital to note that they have not made any concluding statements regarding the involvement or guilt of any individuals, including our vice presidents. To suggest otherwise is premature and unfounded.
“We urge the public and media to refrain from spreading misinformation that can harm the reputation of individuals and the integrity of our institution. NOCAL remains committed to transparency and accountability in all outs operations and will continue cooperating with the LACC in its investigations.
“While we appreciate the public’s concern regarding the inner workings of government operations, we urge the public to be cautious against the spread of misinformation by certain public members,” the release signed by NOCAL acting Public Affairs Officer Bilton B. Leesalah stated.
