LRA Makes Phenomenal Budget Target Gains-As CG Jallah Explains Factors for Success

MONROVIA – As the Joseph Nyuma Boakai administration wraps up its first year in office, citizens’ expectations are running rife for the government to deliver on its campaign promises captured under the ARREST agenda for which it won the hearts and souls of the electorate in 2023. As things stand, the government of Liberia must have just experienced a windfall of an economic providence through the instrumentality of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) which announced yesterday in a major press briefing that as of the close of the 2024 fiscal year, it had exceeded its annual revenue target of US $690 million by raising more than US $692 million.

“An additional US $10M is in the process of being reconciled; so, actual performance is expected to be much higher. This achievement is a testament to the resilience, commitment, and collaboration of every stakeholder involved in the revenue mobilization process. On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Management, and the entire staff of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), it is with immense pride and gratitude that I stand before you today to announce a remarkable milestone in our collective journey of strengthening Liberia’s economic foundation,” Commissioner General Dorbor Jallah said.

Pillars of Success

CG Jallah, though proud and elated over the momentous feat, attributed his agency’s revenue collection dexterity to several key stakeholders, including the taxpayers, among others, without whose contributions to the national economy, the LRA wouldn’t have impacted the national budget in such an astounding fashion.

“To the taxpayers of Liberia, we extend our deepest appreciation. Your compliance, contributions, and commitment to fulfilling your civic responsibilities have been the cornerstone of this accomplishment. Your trust and partnership in building a stronger Liberia inspire us daily.

“To our diligent and hardworking staff across all departments, you have demonstrated professionalism, innovation, and an unyielding drive to achieve results. Your efforts have been instrumental in surpassing this ambitious target.

“To our partner institutions and agencies, we recognize and commend your collaboration in ensuring that all revenue due to the government is collected efficiently and transparently.

“To the various stakeholders including development partners and civil society organizations, thank you for your continuous support, advocacy, and guidance. Your contributions have been invaluable in strengthening our systems and operations,” CG Dorbor said proudly.

Beyond 2025

According to the LRA, it is prudent to be mindful while in a celebratory mood, of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. CG Jallah further opined that while the journey toward robust domestic revenue mobilization is ongoing, and the need for sustained effort and innovation remains critical, stakeholders must be actively engaged to help the LRA double its target as the nation gears up to implement accelerated national development priorities.

“As we set our sights on 2025, we call on all stakeholders to enhance compliance and promote transparency, embrace technology and foster collaboration. We urge taxpayers to continue adhering to their obligations, ensuring timely and accurate tax payments. Let us all work together to uphold transparency and accountability in every aspect of revenue administration.

“The LRA will intensify the use of digital tools to simplify processes and enhance efficiency, and we encourage taxpayers to embrace these platforms.

“Strengthened partnerships with stakeholders, including businesses, community leaders, and international partners, will be key to achieving even greater success in 2025,” CG Jallah asserted.

“Exceeding the 2024 revenue target isa momentous achievement that underscores the potential of collective action and shared responsibility. However, it is also a reminder that our work is far from complete. Together, we can build a Liberia that is self-reliant, prosperous, and equipped to meet the needs of its citizens.

“Let this moment serve as both a celebration of what we have accomplished and rallying in the future. We count on your continued call for greater achievements in support as we aim to set new records and break new ground in 2025.

“Thank you, and may God bless the Republic of Liberia and all who contribute to its development,” CG Jallah said.
