(LINA) – Former Congress for Democratic Change Campaign Spokesman, and now the founder of Liberia Political Centrism Movement (LPCM) in Liberia Kanio Bai Gbala, has backed the Boakai-Koung administration to succeed, noting that if the current government prospers, it will have a direct positive impact on the underprivileged Liberians and country in its entirety.
In an interview with state radio on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Monrovia, Cllr. Gbala, though still attaches himself to the CDC, said he does not buy in the wish of those who want the government to fail so that they can have an opportunity of coming to power, adding, this perception of government’s failure does not augur well for the prosperity and development of the country.
The CDC stalwart, who has on many occasions expressed no regret for leading an issue-based debate against the Unity Party during the past elections, said it is now time for Liberians to amalgamate forces in the rebuilding and development of their nation, which, he thinks, will benefit every Liberian regardless of which political divide he or she comes from.
He alluded to a long and constant practice in Liberia’s politics where politicians who are not in power usually wish that the incumbent government should fail, adding that such conception has done nothing positive for the nation.
“I want the government to succeed because for too long we cannot have just 50 percent of the country wanting the government to fail and another 50 percent fighting to succeed. It so happens that Pres. Boakai is now the president, so let him succeed. And after him, whomever we bring to lead, let him or her also succeed,” Cllr. Gbala expressed.
He said the country has not progress as it should because after election, heads of political parties set themselves apart, as some will fight for the government of the day not to succeed so that another group will have an opportunity to come to power, something he recognized as the cardinal reason the country has failed on what it has to achieve.
“This country has been the paragon of failure for too long for us to wish to fail because we are not on the same team that won the game. It has to change,” he added, as he frowned on political actors for putting their desires first above the country’s interest.
If Liberia continues to trend unproductive politicking, Cllr. Gbala stressed, it is the poor that will bear the full weight of failed governments, leading to an extreme poverty on the people who may not have the same opportunity as those who will sit at the zenith of power, denouncing such a ruthless politicking as it poses a serious negative effect on the commoners.
