Cummings Foundation Distributes Rice, Detergents in Several Communities -Begins with Southeasterners in Monrovia

The Cummings Africa Foundation (CAF) has identified with citizens of Southeastern Liberia residing in Monrovia and its environs, donating about 700 bags of 25kg rice, oil, super gari as well as detergents to several communities including Clara Town, Jamaica Road, New Kru Town, West Point, 72nd Barracks, Sinkor, among others.

Speaking during the donation on Monday, May 4, 2020, Cummings Africa Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Alexander B. Cummings said the Foundation with its meager resources has decided to provide some food and non-food items to Liberians in the midst of the global health crisis.

Mr. Cummings said the foundation is not fully equipped to reach out to every Liberian, but noted that its donation will touch sensitive areas of the Liberian society, especially counties that are affected by the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

He said the Foundation is moved to contribute to the survival of the Liberian population considering the difficult times and threats brought upon them by the presence of the Coronavirus pandemic.

He averred that “in difficult times like these, it is incumbent upon us who are humanitarians to seek the interest of our people. That is why our foundation is giving this little to you. Let me also encourage you to observe all the preventive measures instituted by health authorities in containing COVID-19”.

The Alternative National Congress (ANC) Political Leader at the same time called on the Liberian people to stay at home in observance of the President’s State of Emergency order which was pronounced early April and later extended by another 14 days to ensure that the virus is contained.
“I want to encourage you to wear your masks, wash your hands, keep a social distance, stay home; because this virus does not discriminate by tribe, religion, political affiliation or color of skin,” Mr. Cummings added.

He further disclosed that the CAF has reached out to Grand Cape Mount, Montserrado and Margibi Counties, and intends to cover other counties in the Southeastern part of Liberia.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the River Gee people in Clara Town, Rev. Elijah G. Johnson lauded the Alternative National Congress Political Leader for his kind gesture to the people of River Gee County in the midst of the global health crisis.

He said since the pronouncement of the State of Emergency was made by the President on April 8, which took effect on the 10th of April this year, it has been very tough for them to get food to sustain their families.

According to Rev. Johnson, Mr. Cummings is the first person to identify with the people of River Gee County living in Monrovia and its environs since the declaration of the Coronavirus pandemic State of Emergency, thereby calling on others to follow suit.

For his part, Grebo Governor Mr. Sampson Weah thanked the Cummings Africa Foundation Chief Executive Officer for the goodwill to the Grebo people and urged that Mr. Cummings considers other tribal groups and not only the Grebo.

He furthered that the CAF venture is welcoming and needs to be emulated by other stakeholders in the country in ensuring that Liberians are provided for in the midst of the Coronavirus Pandemic State of Emergency which has effected every sector of the Liberian society.

Also speaking in New Kru Town, The Chairman of the Fundaye Community, Mr. Nelson Sekeh, applauded the Cummings Africa Foundation and its Chief Executive Officer for the project and prayed God’s countless blessings upon the group and its leaders.
