CDC Suspends Rebelling Legislative Members, Congratulates Trump -Picks Bone with Unity Party as It Penalizes Nonconformists
MONROVIA – The re-election of Donald J. Trump, Jr. this week as president of the United States for a new term following a lull of four years sends a code around the world – a code that finds particular expression with the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) in a near-similar scenario—planning a comeback having been defeated as incumbent in its first term. Perhaps because of this, the Party quickly joined many countries, groups and individuals hailing the Trump win. But stabbed in the back by its legislative members, a sign challenging the comeback crusade, the CDC used the Trump congratulatory press statement to also announce the suspension of the way-out partisans. The Analyst reports.
Congress for Democratic Change, the main stem of the former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change, says it appreciates all Americans for the successful conduct of the 2024 American elections and congratulates President-Elect Donald Trump on his historic win.
Former President Trump’s win is a testament to the strength of American democracy, which shows exceptional respect for the will of the people, the CDC assists, adding that Liberia’s version of democracy is in danger because President Joseph Boakai is attempting to impose a one-party-dominant state and undermine checks and balances in the Government.
The Congress for Democratic Change along with its constituent members constitution the Coalition for Democratic Change lost its bid for a second time as Trump suffered in 2020 and making attempts to recapture state power in 2029. The CDC comeback plan is bumping into hiccups and it is suspecting its chief rival the Unity Party as engaging in sabotaging moves.
The CDC therefore used its press statement at the same to call President Boakai to desist from what it called “his selfish political desire to destabilize the Democracy of the State, with the Executive Branch interfering and dominating the Legislature and disrespecting the decisions of the Liberian Judiciary”.
The former ruling CDC divulged that President Boakai is unbothered amid the Government’s failure to pay the AFL and other government workers, massive off-budget spending, rampant corruption at several government institutions, the LRRRC, etc., but chooses to waste State resources by sponsoring the removal of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.
“It is evident that Mr. Boakai and his Unity Party Government are crumbling under the weight of their government and are seeking escape through possible instability that may result from his dangerous political maneuvering, including the continuous political harassment of the CDC and the unlawful removal of the Speaker,” the party said.
Given the risk this ploy of the Unity Party poses to Liberia’s democratic practices, the CDC noted it is surprised that some of its partisans who are lawmakers would allow themselves to be used in this process.
“This act of the partisans violates Part II, Chapter I, Rule 5 of the CDC Constitution,” said the CDC. “Hence, the Party will create no space for such deviant partisans.”
The Party has therefore decided to, in keeping with Part II, Chapter I, Rule 14 to TEMPORARILY SUSPEND those partisans who are lawmakers being used and request them, in keeping with Part I, Article 15, Section 80 and Part II, Chapter I, Rule 17 & 18 to avail themselves of the National Disciplinary Committee (Grievance and Ethics Committee) for investigation.
Those suspended include Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah, Rep. District #1, Lofa County; Alexander Poure, Rep. District #1, River Gee County; Isaac B. Choloplay Wuo, Rep. District #2, River Gee County; Johnson S. N. Williams, Rep. District #3, River Gee County; Julie F. Wiah, and Rep. District #2, Lofa County.
Others are Momo Siafa Kpoto, Rep. District #3, Lofa County; Ivar K. Jones, Rep. District #2, Margibi County; Emmanuel Yarl, Rep. District #4, Margibi County; Clarence Gahr, Rep. District #5, Margibi County; P. Mike Jurry, Rep. District #1, Maryland County, and Samson Q. Wiah, Rep. District #2, Sinoe County.
The CDC says it remains committed to upholding the peace and stability of the State and cautions Joseph Boakai to desist from instituting political manipulations that have the potential to undermine our hard-earned peace.
Amid the situation, the Party has informed all its partisans and supporters that its Martyrs Day, November 7, 2024, will celebrated in District #15, Montserrado County.
“This year’s celebration will be held in a quiet ceremony in the said district; we encourage all partisans to assemble,” said the CDC which concluded that it “remains focused on ‘Turning Setbacks into a Great Comeback.’”
