MONROVIA: What should have been a moment of sadness and befitting way of paying his last respect and that of the Liberty Party to the fallen former Representative of District #1, Grand Bassa County, the late Hans Barchue turned out to be a day not to be remembered for Mr. Musa Hassan Biliy, National Chairman of the party when he was verbally attacked by some angry youths who were chanting and hauling invectives on his person just as the Vice Standard Bearer Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine accused the Unity Party of instigating and masterminding the attack and vowed to make a full complaint to the National Elections Commission.
Mr. Bility who led a delegation of the LP/CPP to attend the funeral service of the late Representative Barchue unlike other dignitaries that were accorded due respect and warmly welcome despite the city being thrown into a state of mourning for the death of a prominent son of the county, got an unfavorable reception upon being sighted by some angry youths who in no time mobilized some of their other friends to join the action to humiliate Chairman Bility.
Our correspondent who covered the program said the manner in which the youths were swiftly mobilized and positioned at a specific place where Bility would be visible suggests that the action was premeditated and someone who may have some sinister antics against Chairman Bility and privy to the protocol arrangement may have facilitated the plan.
According to our correspondent whose accounts were corroborated with the video footage available to The Analyst, the youth marched behind Bility chanting, “party rogue, party rogue”, apparently being sarcastic against Bility remaining the National Chairman of the party after the crisis that rocked party between the faction loyal to Senator Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence who has good following among the people of Bassa Land.
What could be buttressed from our correspondent’s account that the group had some form of backings from some big hidden hands, was throughout the molestation, not a single person be it an elder or any person made any attempt to stop the boys from embarrassing Bility. The boys had their field day up to the church when Mr. Bility entered the church, venue of the funeral service.
According to the Vice Standard Bearer of CPP, Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine, who was also on the delegation, the agitation of the youth got louder and threatened to physically attack the CPP Chairman when his security details getting tip off of what was in the making, whisked him away out of the hall and took him to safety in his waiting car around the church.
Cllr. Brumskine who witnessed almost every aspect of the ordeal told newsmen that the Unity Party for instigated the attack as an attempt to humiliate Bility who had gone to genuinely sympathize with the bereaved family and pay his last respect to the late Grand Bassa County lawmaker who was a member of the LP.
To the surprise of others who were watching as the incident was unfolding, Bility was unfazed throughout and never bothered to respond or complain to any one, he moved on unconcerned majestically, dressed in a dark suit.
While terming it as being politically motivated, Cllr. Brumskine said the act is a clear violation of the Farmington River Declaration signed by political parties and candidates in the polity to ensure that the 2023 general elections will be violent free.
She said the CPP will formally communicate the ugly incident to NEC with the view of seeking redress.
Meanwhile, the Unity Party, speaking through its campaign spokesman Mo Ali denied the involvement of the party and said the party is open to an independent probe to unravel the incident.
