By H Matthew Turry

What appears to be frosty relationship amongst the officials of the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) has once again reared its ugly head with Executive Director suspecting some senior executives of allegedly giving tip off and stealing classified information for personal gains.

The regulatory body of the country’s higher education is grappling with internal dissatisfaction as leaking of sensitive documents reveal a growing rift at the administrative level.

The Analyst has reliably gathered some senior staff members at the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) stand accused as the masterminds of some ‘damaging” information coming out of the Commission.

The NCHE has been in the media recently, especially the Verity Newspaper for the wrong reason.

There have been a series of publications in the newspaper of financial malpractices at the entity, alleging that a high-ranking NCHE staff who preferred anonymity was the source of official information in the paper, something described as an unhealthy situation bringing the institution to public ridicule.

According to some reliable insiders, such individuals were recently warned by the Executive Director of NCHE to stop spreading lies through fabrication of documents to the media for personal agenda due to the early warning signs of the seeming breach of protocol flashed from the individuals.

Inside sources further told The Analyst that those individuals to face investigation for allegedly being caught in undermining the very institution they serve by tampering with confidential documents and leaking them to the media for personal gains.

The documents, which our sources said are critical to the NCHE, were allegedly tampered with and provided to the media in exchange for personal benefits.

Sources close to the NCHE told the Analyst that the unwholesome behaviours of those senior staff members have the potential to tarnish the institution’s image, endanger ongoing efforts of weeding out bogus lecturers and universities from higher education sector in the country.

The insider also said the untrusted action of those senior staff has the potential of undermining the trust and credibility of the institution.

“The motives behind the betrayal by the senior staff members remain unclear, raising question about loyalty, ethics, and professional conduct within the higher education sector”, the source said.

Meanwhile, based on the “ethical violation for personal gains and reputational risk to the NCHE,” the Executive Director, Dr. Edward Lama Wonkeryor, has swiftly responded to allegations of corruption against him, while vowing to launch a thorough internal inquiry to ascertain the extent of the breach and identify any accomplices involved in the unauthorized tampering and disclosure of confidential materials.

Wonkeryor has vowed to uphold transparency, accountability, and the institution’s core values in handling this unfortunate incident.

In the wake of this, the academic community has been left spinning, with concerns raised about the potential consequences on the institution’s standing and the overall trust in higher education leadership.

Liberians and other stakeholders are calling for swift and decisive action to address the breach and prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the investigation unfolds, the institution’s attention is now on the senior staff members accused of betraying the trust placed in them and compromising the institution’s integrity for personal gains.
