‘We Will Stand With You, We Will Fight For You’ -STAND Accepts ‘Masses’ Petition, Vows to Serve them than Politicians

MONROVIA – The Chairman of the Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND), Mulbah K. Morlu, says he and his organization are firmly ready and prepared to stand up at the perils of the Liberian nation and that “with dangers post to us, we care more about Liberia and our personal security, because Liberia deserve better”.

“This country’s change must never be delayed; it must come now,” Morlu said last Friday as he received a powerful petition from a swarm of ordinary Liberians who had gathered to woo him and his organization to serve as their voice and advocate in the fight of issues that confront them and the country.

The citizens’ petition to Morlu and STAND put forth some 15 socioeconomic priorities that would they like the advocacy organization to pursue as to bring needed relief to the nation and its people.

The burning core issues contained in the petitioners’ petition to STAND include: Making corruption a serious & non-bailable offense if the amount axceeds a certain threshold; Free Healthcare for Expectant Mothers and Innocent Children; Free and Compulsory Education for Every Liberian Child; Restoring Dignity to Our Women and Girls; Making Public Service Accountable: Reducing Tenures for Elected Officials; Protection of Civil Servants and Review of Concession Agreements for Equitable Resource Distribution.

They also called on Mr. Morlu to fight for prioritizing Community Development in Profit-Sharing; End Child Labor in Street Trading; job Creation and Sustainable Livelihoods; Increased Agricultural Investment for Food Security; illicit Substance & Cross-Border Drug Trade; Gender-Based Violence; Student Loans: A Pathway to Empowerment and vacation Jobs: Unlocking Potential and Building Skills.

“Mr Chairman and leaders of STAND, we submit these priorities to you as the voice of Liberia’s ordinary people,” the petitioners said in conclusion. “We trust in your leadership and in STAND’s capacity to fight for a better Liberia.

“By championing these causes, STAND as an advocacy civil rights organization can help build a nation that is just, prosperous, and equitable. The future of Liberia depends on the actions we take today.”

Responding to the petitioners, Mr. Morlu assured them that STAND is a force for good, and those that are afraid should not be afraid except if you are doing wrong.

“STAND is not a political institution, and does not intend to be one,” he said further. “STAND is civil society, pro-democracy, human rights advocacy organization that emerge to stand tall in defense of the mases, to stand tall in defense of what is right to fight impunity and bring about accountable governance.”

Morlu sounded a warning: “So, if you are in a government doing the wrong thing or doing bad things then you have a good reason to be afraid, because STAND will go after those that commit wrong, go after those that are corrupt, go after those that are pollute and steal from power.

“And, we are doing these things without any desire of political incentives, our desire is the peace and stability and the growth of the Republic of Liberia. STAND has come out to ensure that comes to Liberia, the rottener of our democracy will change.”

According to him, the 15 pillows enlisted by “the wonderful people from different backgrounds of disable communities, civil service, bike riders, from farmers, gas station workers, from hotel workers, shoes shine boys, Police men among others,” are the most important pillows of the country.

“We prefer to serve you more than serving the interest of politician, we will stand with you, we will fight for you,” said, promising that in the coming days, STAND would begin to demonstrate “that we will confront the problem of our country, so get ready to tie your wastes, wear your jeans trousers, wear your sweaters, and wear your boots”.
