Government of Liberia, United Nations and Development Partners Sign Five Years Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework in Support of the Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development

Monrovia, Liberia: The Government of Liberia and the United Nations in  Liberia have today 15 August 2019 signed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2020 – 2024), a five-year Cooperation Framework to support the Government of Liberia’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development.

The new United Nations Cooperation Framework (the UNSDCF) covers a fiveyear period from 2020-2024 and was developed in close consultation with the Government of Liberia and other development partners in alignment with the ProPoor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD), the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UNSDCF 2020-2024 is the successor framework to the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF 2013-2019) whose cycle ends on the 31 December 2019 and builds on the experience and lessons learnt from the concluding programming cycle. The new Cooperation Framework most importantly recognizes the collective development efforts of the Government of Liberia, the United Nations Family, Development Partners, the Private Sector and CSOs in changing positively the lives of Liberian people.

This UNSDCF advances the UN Secretary General’s agenda on repositioning the UN Development System in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and in ensuring that NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND. The UNSDCF will guide the work of the United Nations System in Liberia in supporting the Government realise the aspirations of the Pro- Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development, driven by its overarching principle that for development to be pro-poor, it must be inclusive, with all Liberians having the opportunity to contribute to, participate in, and benefit from national development.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework was signed by Hon. Samuel D. Tweah, Jr., Minister of Finance and Development Planning on behalf of the Government and Mr. Yacoub El Hillo, Assistant Secretary-General and United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia on behalf of the UN in Liberia at the Cecil Dennis Auditorium at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 5:12pm.
