ECC Gets New Board Chairperson -Journalist MalColm W. Joseph Takes Baton

MONROVIA: Liberia’s leading elections observer Group on June 29, 2024 announced the appointment of Mr. Malcolm W. Joseph as its new Board Chairperson.

A release from the Elections Coordinating Committing (ECC) said Joseph’s appointment takes immediate effect, taking over as head of the ECC with full powers pursuant to the constitution of the organization.

Mr. Malcolm Joseph is a highly respected civil society leader and media development expert with a proven track record of success, the release noted.

He has been an active member of the ECC Board of Director and is also Executive Director of the Center for Media Studies and Peace Building.

The release said, moving forward, Mr. Joseph will provide leadership, strategic guidance, and oversight for the ECC, as the ECC continues to drive growth and position itself as Liberia’s credible electoral observatory.

According to the release, the appointment of Joseph is based on a unanimous decision reached by members of the Board of Directors of the ECC.

“This decision is intended to fill the leadership void occasioned by the resignation of Cllr. Oscar Bloh as chairperson,” said the release. “Among other things, Mr. Joseph is expected to demonstrate his proven professional competence and leadership finesse at this crucial moment of rolling out the ECC USAID-funded post-election activities.”

With his appointment, Joseph is expected to provide leadership in sustaining the ECC national footprint and innovate new ideas, without reinventing the wheel, in tandem with the ECC’s strategic objectives.

Said the release: “It is the view of many knowledgeable persons that the new chairperson is a team player. He looks forward to the supportive role of the Board and management team to leverage emerging opportunities and consolidate the gains recorded by Liberia’s lead domestic election observatory.”

Mr. Joseph brings over 20 years of professional experience in media, and good governance, which combined his wealth of experience reassures success of his tenure.

In assuming the position, the release indicated, Malcolm Joseph on behalf of the board and management was full of thanks and appreciation of his predecessor Cllr. Oscar Bloh for the astute leadership stint he provided at the helm of ECC.

The Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC) is Liberia’s largest domestic election observation network with diverse competencies, experiences, and expertise in democracy, elections, and governance established since 2010.
