MONROVIA – Amongst many lawmakers detesting attempts by members of House of Representatives is Coalition for Democracy Change lawmaker Frank Saah Foko who is calling on the Unity Party government and president Joseph Boakai to direct their energies and the resources of the country to improving lives of ordinary Liberians instead of wasting them on briberies and acts that will further divide the country.
“It’s unacceptable to remove the Speaker by inducing some members of the Honorable House of Representatives,” said Representative Foko who has firmly stood in defense of his partisan, House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.
He added: “The money being used could help to improve our hospitals, increase civil servants, revive educational facilities and drive our development agenda.”
“We stand with Speaker Fonati Koffa as it’s the right thing to do. He has committed his leadership to serving the people through proper budgetary allocations to key economic and developmental areas meant to make the country better, no amount of chicaneries will reverse the path we are on,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Saah Foko vowed that “the Legislature will not be used as a gateway to money laundering and those sponsoring destabilization should desist and desist now. All the personal animosities against the Speaker by a handful of our colleagues cannot be equated to an overall dislike by the Liberian people.”
According to him, words on the streets and from international partners remain clear that the Speaker of House enjoys the confidence of the masses especially those on Capitol Hill.
Those with personal issues can chart a new course to sort out the differences but any gangster take over will be met with stiff resistance.
As members of the first branch of Government, he said, “we have to conduct ourselves legally and responsibly as many eyes are on us.”
“We call on all instigators and those behind the inducement to stop and stop now, the Speaker enjoys our confidence and nothing is going to stop that.”
He reaffirmed that lawmakers “remain committed to integrity, honesty and sincerity as we do the Liberian people business,” adding: President Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung “should stay away from unnecessarily interfering into another branch of government”.
