MONROVIA – Several towns and villages within ArcelorMittal Liberia’s operational areas went festive on July 26 as they lavishly celebrated their country’s independence day under the auspices of the company.

Hundreds of residents of Nimba’s District #2 such as Zolowee, Gbedin and others were all in the ‘fries’ during the event sponsored by ArcelorMittal in what its officials called a demonstration of community spirit and corporate citizenship.

The day witnessed the gathering that also included over 700 children who received mixed-item packages provided by the company. The packages include snacks, slippers, and toys, amongst other items.

Most of the attendees praised the company for the occasion and the gifts, describing it unprecedented and enjoyable.

Adults who included town chiefs, parents and women leaders commended AML for reaching out to them, and putting smiles on their faces during Liberia’s Independence Day.

“I want to tell AML thank you so much. My son received slippers, popcorn, and candy. They were not doing this before, so I want to tell them a very big thank you for all they are doing now. Let them continue,” the parent shared with emotion.

Youth chairman Wesley Gbato who spoke for the young people said the company is a God-sent for the communities and people, because they are feeling the possible vibes and impact from its operations in their area.

ArcelorMittal Liberia, operating in Nimba County, is unarguably the country’s biggest concessionaire and major contributor to national economy, employing more citizens and exercising corporate social responsibility.

Company sources said the celebration was its way of giving back to the community and country for partnership consummated twenty years ago.
