LNBA Retreats to Buchanan -Shaping Bar’s Future Direction High on ‘Docket’

MONROVIA – The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) has announced the holding of its Strategic Retreat scheduled to take place in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, from August 20 to 23, 2025.

According to an LNBA release issued yesterday August 20, 2025, “The retreat, graciously sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR), intended to set the strategic direction of the Bar over the coming years.

The release also stated that the retreat would provide an opportunity for the leadership of the Association to deliberate on and adopt several policy prescriptions that will strengthen the Bar’s role in promoting justice, the rule of law, and professional excellence in Liberia.

“Key instruments to be discussed and adopted at the retreat include, A Three-Year Strategic Plan for the LNBA, A National Welfare Policy for members of the Bar,” the release said.

The LNBA statement further noted the retreat would strengthen domestic and foreign travel ordinances for officers, members, and staff of the Association as well as other policies crucial to the effective functioning of the Bar.

The LNBA said it believed the adoption of these strategic frameworks will mark a new chapter in the Association’s drive toward institutional growth, accountability, and service to the nation.

The release noted that several distinguished personalities are expected to grace the opening session of the retreat, including   Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, the UNDP Resident Aliou MamadoU Dia, the UNOHCHR Resident Representative, Mr. Christian Mukosa and other national and international partners.

Speaking ahead of the retreat, Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, National President of the LNBA, emphasized the importance of the retreat, noting, “This retreat is a defining moment for the Liberian National Bar Association.”

He said by adopting a clear strategic direction and critical policy instruments, “we will not only improve the governance of our Association but also strengthen our contribution to the advancement of the rule of law, justice delivery, and democracy in Liberia.”

The statement concluded by saying, “The LNBA extends appreciation to UNDP and UNOHCHR for their continued partnership and support to the Association’s institutional development and reform agenda.
