Monrovia: As the fight intensifies to reclaim Liberia’s most populous political bastion from the opposition community, stalwarts of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) are leaving no stones unturned in winning the hearts, minds and souls of the electorates in Montserrado County. In what appears to be a well-orchestrated political ploy, The Analyst has observed how prominent officials of the CDC-led government are beseeching the citizens not to be distracted by undue propaganda from the opposition solely meant to undermine efforts being applied by President Weah and his government.
According to Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah, the public must continue to trust the president for his resolve to cater to the welfare of the people, because President Weah came to office for the good of his people.
Minister Tweah made the remarks on June 18, 2020 during a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of four modern housing units on the Gbekugbe Avenue in the Doe Community on the Bushrod Island, Monrovia. The event brought together top officials of Government including the Minister of State for Presidential Nathaniel Falo Mcgill, who broke the grounds for the construction of the four housing units, as well as partisans and well-wishers of the governing CDC. The CDC National Chairman, Mulbah K. Morlu attended the ground breaking ceremony.
Minister Mcgill agreed with Minister Tweah that the opposition community is unjustifiably using propaganda to make President Weah and the CDC government unpopular.
Minister Tweah furthered that the CDC government is concerned with the development of the country and the wellbeing of the Liberian people.
According to Tweah, the government is constrained at the same time to be concerned with addressing propaganda from the opposition, adding that the opposition is using its propaganda machines to abort the popular people revolution that brought President Weah to power, which he pointed out, “We will not allow that in the history of this country”.
Also speaking at the groundbreaking, Montserrado County Electoral District #5 and Chairperson of the Montserrado County Legislative Caucus, Thomas P. Fallah, said the construction of the four housing units is the continuation of President Weah’s effort to uplift the standard of living of the people, which he noted is also part of the Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity (PAPD).
“These Housing Units are continuation of the President’s effort and also part of the Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity that says we must change and upgrade the lives of the ordinary Liberian people to middle class level,” he said, noting that the ordinary people deserve and must live that better life, a lifestyle that is required by the people, as have happened for the last two or three years since the ascendency of President Weah.
He said since the Government came to power, opposition parties have begun to do their work. “Since you brought this government to power, the opposition continues to work against the government, but like the President said, they should continue to hold the blueprint, and he will do the work for the people, he will transform the lives of the citizens.”
The Montserrado County District #5 Representative said the opposition forces have refused to acknowledge the good development achieved by the government.
“I want to speak through this medium. Have you heard the opposition speaking about salary payment being stable; have they praised the government on the issue of stabilizing the economy on the issue of salary payment? They cannot talk about the good things that are going on but they can only criticize – but we will also prove them wrong,” Rep. Fallah averred.
The Monsterrado County lawmaker also said the oppositions are on a mission to make President Weah unpopular; and therefore cautioned supporters not to vote the opposition in the coming December 2020 mid-team senatorial election.
“In this coming December, we will come back to you; and don’t repeat what you did in the past by paying good with evil; do not support any opposition in the coming senatorial election again; do not pay good with evil,” Rep. Fallah urged.
The Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAAFA), Madam Emma Glasco, who is also Coordinator of the Housing Project, urged partisans of the CDC and the Liberian people in general against giving up on the government, noting that the government will do better. “Don’t give up on your government, we will get there.”
Madam Glasco said the Liberian people have suffered for so long, and said the time is now that they get lifted from their conditions.
To have such an administration like the CDC government that is dreaming about the people’s wellbeing daily, NAAFA boss said, is a blessing, as opposed to those who did not do anything tangible when they had the opportunity, but are bent on distracting the progress of the CDC government.
It can be recalled that a few months ago, four houses were gutted by fire on Gbekugbe Avenue in the Doe Community, which led to the death of a six-year-old child. The disaster prompted the Government to have taken the initiative to construct the four housing units.
Meanwhile, the head of the Liberian Building Construction Engineer, the company awarded the contract to build the units, Moses JED Maplah, said the project is expected to be complete in three months.
