The Liberian Council of Churches has called on Christians throughout the country not to be deterred by the outbreak of COVID 19 which has obstructed the activities of church but see the unfortunate situation as a point to strengthen faith and trust in the Lord.
The LCC call was contained in its passionately and emotionally charged Easter Statement released over the weekend to silently mark the festive Easter celebration throughout Liberia. It described the pandemic as a type of Anti-Christ spoken about in the Holy Bible which has reduced the movement of people and restricted private lives and closed down millions of churches worldwide.
The Easter statement buttressed its assertion by quoting Apostle Paul in 1st John 4:3, “ And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God; and this is that of Anti-Christ, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the World”
The LCC lamented the attendant frustration the Body of Christ has to endure especially during the Lenting and Festival among which included the closure of churches and the restoration of believers to worship.
“To the Church we say our faith has been tested by the global pandemic. However, Easter gives us hope and inspires us to be reminded that the weapon of our warfare are not canal, but powerful by the pulling down of strongholds. 1st John 4:4 reminds us that “you, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world”, the religious institution assures its members.
The statement which is populated by a series scriptural backings from the Bible, called on all Liberians and people of good faith to pull together to defeat COVID 19. It made specific reference to the Government of Liberia to develop an inclusive and properly coordinated national plan of action that will address all the ramifications of the virus such as medical, economic, social, political and spiritual as well as calling on the security forces to create the atmosphere for greater cooperation between they and ordinary Liberians.
The apex Christian organization also had a word for the Legislature by calling on it to pay high premium on the plight of ordinary Liberians as she congregates this week to take action on the declared state of emergency by the President of Liberia.
The statement ended with prayers for all the health workers on the frontline fighting the pandemic for God’s guidance and protection in the course of discharging their duties and those who have been affected by the disease for healing and comfort.
