Construction Company Promises Economic Boost -Executive Director: “Great Milestone for Harper City”

MONROVIA – The Executive Director of Gabmark group of Companies, Gabriel Tarpeh, says his local construction organization has begun undertaking roads rehabilitation projects in Harper District and that such an intervention will bring direct and indirect economic boost to citizens and residents in the district.

During the groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday March 7, 2025, in New Kru Town Community, Tobyville Township near the Port City of Harper, Engineer Gabriel Tarpeh described the road initiative as a great milestone reached with the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and rehabilitation of major deplorable roads in Harper City and its environs.

He named two of Maryland County Lawmakers’, the Liberian Senate Committee Chair on Executive James P. Biney, Maryland County District #1 Representative and Chair on Ways, Means, Finance, Budget Committee in the Lower House Hon. P. Mike Jurry and former Maryland County Service Center Coordinator Mrs. Julian Morais Johnson now Assistant Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Public Works as major contributor towards the success of the road initiative.

The occasion t brought together representatives from the Ministry of Public Works, community leaders representing women’s groups, and representatives from the Christian, Muslim communities.

Gabriel Tarpeh told our Maryland County correspondent that his institution has had a positive and visible track record in managing large-scale projects for both corporate and public institutions of Liberia.

Gabmark will implement the first phase of the project, which is expected to cost just over USD 45,000 and will be monitored by the Ministry of Public Works.

He said all of his contractors will be recruited in Maryland County, something he highlighted will boost the economics growth in the county.

He said roads that are selected for rehabilitation include airfield road to Tubman Town Community to Maryland Avenue Hoffman New Kru Town to Tubman University Campus, Mcgill Street to Hoffman Station, Old Kru Town to the Seaport of Harper, and the William R. Tolbert Drive.

Speaking during the occasion Mr. Thaddeaus Kumar, representing Hon. P. Mike Jurry, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the initiative, and described the project as a significant milestone pointing out the relevance of roads as a cardinal economic infrastructure development.

Kumar appreciated the major contributors for contribution towards humanity in ensuring the rehabilitation of roads in Harper District.

During the ceremony, Senator Biney office staff Confidence Russell, disclosed that challenges deplorable roads conditions faced by community dwellers cannot be overstated.

“We think our people have had issues with roads over time, and this time around, they all saw the need to work together collectively to address that,” Russell stated, stressing that the project’s success relies on the cooperation of both community leaders and residents. Russell maintained. In furtherance Confidence Russell explained that road development can with lot of challenges and might lead to removing of structures very closed to the streets.

Tobyvill Township Commissioner A. Tete Nagbe Sonpon expressed profound gratitude during the groundbreaking, noting that it is a momentous ceremony for the community. Retrospecting on the past, he pointed out that since the 1980s, the community has not seen such initiative in road rehabilitation efforts from the public works.

During the ceremony, Gabriel Tarpeh explained that the first phase of the rehabilitation exercise is expected to be completed within course of two weeks, with the second phase to follow soon after. He explained that the exact distance to be covered will be determined after engineers assess the Township A. Tete Nagbe Sonpon,

The Director for Mobile and Equipment Joseph Dickson said the road from McGill Street to Hoffman Station and Bassa Community to Hoffman Station is being negotiated and undertaking by assistant Public Works Minister for Administration Mrs. Julian Morais Johnson.

Gabriel Tarpeh commended Minister Julian Morias Johnson of the Ministry who played a key role in securing the necessary equipment for the project.

He also appreciated Pleebo District Lawmaker Hon. Anthony F. Williams for his instrumental role in negotiating with the Ministry and aiding in the transportation of machines to Maryland for the road project.

The two Maryland County Lawmakers’ Senator James P. Biney and Hon. P. Mike Jurry promised to undertake the financial cost for the project, ensuring their commitment to improving the livelihood of Harper City dwellers. Gabriel Tarpeh assured citizens in providing resources efforts are being made to ensure the road rehabilitation is completed in line with the time set in by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE).
