CMC Stands Up to Snowe’s Rescue -Tags GoL’s Statement Against Him ‘Dangerous Lies”

The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) categorically has condemned the May 24, 2025, statement issued by the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), purportedly in response to comments allegedly made by Bomi County Senator and ECOWAS Parliamentarian, Edwin Snowe.

CMC said in a release that the communication from MICAT was not only laced with falsehoods and misrepresentations, it was also a direct assault on free speech, political pluralism, and democratic values in Liberia.

“It sets a dangerous precedent where political disagreements are framed as threats to national security, and dissenting voices are treated as enemies of the state,” the country’s youngest registered political party asserted. “To publicly accuse a sitting Senator of plotting to undermine the state without a shred of verified evidence is both irresponsible and vindictive.”

The CMC said what is more troubling is the government’s call for ECOWAS and international partners to act against a Liberian citizen on the basis of unsubstantiated claims, calling it not just poor governance but also state-sponsored intimidation that must not be normalized.

CMC reminded the Boakai-led administration that political dissent is not sedition; the right to speak, criticize, and challenge those in power is sacred in a democracy; ECOWAS is not an extension of the ruling party’s propaganda machinery, and governance is not about silencing critics but about serving the people.

The Citizens Movement for Change called on ECOWAS and other international partners to see this statement for what it is — a desperate attempt to scapegoat and deflect from the government’s own failures.

The party also urged the people of Liberia to remain vigilant and reject this creeping culture of fear, distortion, and authoritarianism, and demanded the Ministry of Information to immediately retract its statement and apologize to the Liberian people “for this reckless abuse of power”.

“We in the CMC believe that no amount of propaganda can erase the truth, and no threats can silence the demand for justice, good governance, and accountable leadership,” the release quoted the party as also stressing.

“We remain firm in our commitment to democracy, civil liberties, and the rule of law. And we will continue to stand as a voice of reason, truth, and hope for a better Liberia.”
