“Vote Your Conscience!” -LNBA Prexy Warns Voters to Avoid Gifts from Corrupt Politicians

Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) President Cllr. Taiwan Gongloe has cautioned young Liberian voters against taking gifts from politicians during election, rather they should vote with their consciences.

Speaking to the Analyst Newspaper in an exclusive interview after his presentation at the Youth Against Corruption conference on Tuesday at the icampus in Monrovia, Cllr. Gongloe noted that the decisions that young people make gives opportunity to politicians to deliberately carry out corruption, noting that those decisions also determine the condition of Liberia.

“So this coming election, the young people should stop accepting money or scholarship promises or anything to vote. If they do that, they will be participating in corruption as well, because with corruption, the giver and receiver are all corrupt. We should discourage corrupt politicians. Don’t say I will receive it and do the right thing. Don’t just receive it. Vote with your free mind,” he cautioned.

The LNBA Boss said it is significant to educate young people from ages 18-40 and discourage them from having a corrupt mindset in order to abstain from corruption when they ascend to public office.

“I told the young people that corruption is not by accident. Those that are corrupt in Government are doing that deliberately because no can be invited in government to corrupt. I was there so I can speak with a degree of credibility. I worked at the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Justice, the Executive Mansion and Ministry of Labor, and there was nothing there that could make me be corrupt without deliberately being corrupt,” Cllr. Gongloe averred.
