MONROVIA: For several days running, social media has been awash with speculations about that is described in various posts and insinuations of strained relations between the National Chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr. on the one hand and the party’s Standard Bearer, President George Manneh Weah, and the National Campaign Manager, Eugene Lenn Nagbe on the other.
But CDC insiders are turning the tables on opposition elements who they say are hyping the speculations, thinking that the purported cracks would mean a potential trump card to accrue political advantage for what they see as disorder in the ranks and files of the CDC.
The Party’s National Chairman broke silence on the “false social media reports” when he spoke to thousands of officials of the party’s 1,460 auxiliary groups at the party headquarters in a buildup to the September 7, 2023, “One Round Victory” rally scheduled to be held at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.
Speaking amid reverberating cheers from throng of supporters on Sunday, September 3, 2023, Chairman Morlu said the opposition has every reason to resort to baseless propaganda against him because they are nursing their fear for the monumental defeat that awaits them at the October 10 polls.
Morlu retorted by saying that given his position as the leader of “the largest mass based political institution in the country”, he would have been surprised had the opposition not trembled with fear in the face of the CDC’s realistic ‘One Round Victory’ in October.
“They are not resting, thinking that they can lie their way to power,” he said, adding, “Don’t listen to them. They want to distract us.”
According to him, he would do worse had he been in the present state of the opposition where there is no indication that the Liberian people are looking their way probably in the next several years.
The CDC Chairman stressed that partisans of the ruling party should rise above frivolous political gimmicks that are being employed because, according him, “If they can’t convince you, they would want to confuse you”.
The CDC National Chairman’s remarks were greeted by thunderous cheers from partisans who had gathered on the evening of Sunday to keep momentum high for September 7 One Round Victory Rally.
Chairman Morlu, notwithstanding, re-echoed pleas for members and supporters to refrain from violence and be circumspect of provocation from the opposition community.
He pointed out that he is too busy dealing with the assignment given to him by the party’s Standard Bearer, President Weah, and that he has no time to waste behind those who are losing on every front.
He disclosed that everything is in place to ensure that all partisans get t-shirts and other paraphernalia to adorn the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on September 7, 2023.
