Ministry of Labour; LISGIS Sign MOU on Labour Force Survey

MONROVIA – Ministry of Labour and The Liberian Institute of Geo-Information Service (LISGIS) have signed a memorandum of understanding, marking the official launch of the Ministry’s nation-wide ‘Labour Force Survey’ (LFS).

The LFS, first by the current ‘Rescue Mission Government of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai is aimed at gathering vital statistics on the country’s post-war labour sector, both in the formal and informal sectors, targeting ratios of male and female, as well as central focal of employment range capturing Liberian and foreign workforce.

A Labour Ministry press release issued in Monrovia yesterday disclosed that under the joint MOU, LISGIS is expected to provide technical support to the Statistics Department of the Ministry for the smooth conduct of the LFS project across the fifteen sub-political divisions of the country for a four-month duration.

Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr. and LISGIS Director-general Richard N’gafuan, both speaking at the formal signing ceremony of the MOU at the Ministry’s compound during the week, emphasized the importance of the LFS Project in enabling National Government to make informed decisions in creating job opportunities for Liberians, inline with the ARREST AGENDA’ of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, the release added.

The release further quotes the two officials as maintaining that the LFS will provide basic data on the country’s labour sector for subsequent analysis, processing and publication to be used as a national employment roadmap for Liberians.

For his part, Assistant Minister for Labour Statistics Mr. Jackson F. Wolobah expressed delight over the joint MOU which will enable the Ministry to gather realistic data on the country’s current employment and unemployment ratio, comparative to foreigners and Liberians engaged in both formal and informal sectors.

Meanwhile, Labour Minister Kruah has held an acquaintance meeting with over fifty (50) female Liberian returnee victims from the Arab State of Oman, assuring them of Government and international partners’ commitment to seeking their wellbeing, along with others still trapped under the yoke of Trafficking in Persons crimes abroad.
