MONROVIA – Mardea T. Shagbeah, pioneer for women in heavy-duty operations at ArcelorMittal Liberia is making waves in the mining industry and encouraging women to be steadfast and pursue their ambitions in traditionally male-dominated fields. With a remarkable journey from a taxi driver to AML’s first female wheel loader operator at the port, Mardea is a beacon of inspiration for women across Liberia.Recruited in 2008 as a light-duty driver, Mardea’s determination and skill led her to undergo specialized trainings, ultimately becoming a certified wheel loader operator.
Her groundbreaking achievement not only highlights her personal success but also serves as a powerful message to women everywhere that they can excel in any field they choose.“As a woman, I feel very proud working with ArcelorMittal and working amongst men, and I’m able to put food on the table of my family and send my children to school.”Mardea’s advocacy for women’s leadership extends beyond her own career.
