Mary Broh Picks Bone With FeJAL -But FeJAL Boss Takes Exception

By Stephen G Fellajuah

In one of her trademark outbursts that is usually characterized by vexations, Liberia’s General Services Agency (GSA) Director General Madam Mary T. Broh launched a scathing attack against the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) for what she termed as a complete lack of support from the women’s media group since her ascendency to public office. The statement from Madam Broh, which immediately drew the attention of FeJAL, also left many media practitioners and pundits to wonder as to whether some government functionaries actually understand the role of the media and media development agencies, The Analyst reports.

Addressing reporters Monday, October 19, 2020, Madam Broh claimed that FeJAL as a women media group has made no efforts to support or engage with her during the many years that she has been serving government in various capacities.

“They don’t support me; as women we don’t support each other. I stand my ground with that,” General Broh”, as she is affectionately described, averred.

The National Response Coordinator for the Executive Committee on Coronavirus and chair of the National Incident Management System (IMS) further added: “I was selected as orator of the 63rd Armed Forces Day, they never supported me, they said nothing to me. I don’t want to be bothered with them.”

When contacted, FeJAL President Siata Scott Johnson said the Association is an auxiliary under the Press Union Liberia, with members reporting for various media institutions. “She doesn’t understand the point, because FeJAL is not involved with news reporting,” Madam Johnson clarified.

Scott-Johnson said the Association is involved with providing training and building the capacity of female journalists across the country.

Meanwhile, the GSA boss is calling on Liberia’s youthful population to embrace growth and be nationalistic by volunteering their services in ensuring that the country is clean and green.

She said it is time for the young people to join cleaning-up initiatives, stating that a clean environment produces healthy people and healthy people live longer.

The former Mayor of the Monrovia City Corporation was speaking when she led over 50 youths to a cleaning up exercise at the grounds of the Executive Mansion in Monrovia. She revealed that the cleaning up exercise was an initiative of the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs.
