MONROVIA – The former President of the Liberian National Bar Association and senior member of the Grand Cape Mount County Bar, Cllr. Cyril Jones, has called on the citizens of the county to elect people with integrity “instead of hungry politicians”.
Cllr. Jones made the remarks when he responded to the Judge’s charge on November 11,2024 at which time he indicated that when Liberia’s budget is debated, huge portions of it go to the Legislature and Executive branches of government and afterward they accused each other instead of providing services to the ordinary people.
“We must elect people who have credibility, people with good characters and integrity and stop electing people who know nothing except being money eaters,” he added.
The former Liberian National Bar Association president further told the gathering that the Liberian government needs to provide access to Justice by providing the necessary funds its needs.
Cllr. Jones commented on jury management issue where one group of jury are recycled almost every term of court due to lack of support to the judiciary Branch of government.
“Even the prosecutor and public defenders need support to do their work efficiently,” he said.
For his part, Judge Joe S. Barkon of the Second Judicial Circuit Court in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, released 24 pre-trial detainees from the Upper Buchanan Central prison due to their prolonged detention, some having languished for 2 years or more without trial.
