In the wake of the September 27, 2020 unprovoked attack against Montserrado County District #10 lawmaker Yekeh Kolubah by armed marauder allegedly acting on the orders of state actors, the Alternative National Congress (ANC) says it strongly condemns the increasing acts of state-sponsored violence which have come to characterize Liberia’s political space.
In a September 28, 2020 press release, the ANC says it forcefully condemns the ghastly attack on the residence of Representative Yekeh Kolubah, a stalwart of the ANC and Montserrado County District #10 Representative in the National Legislature of the Republic of Liberia.
“This is unacceptable and counterproductive to the maintenance of peace and tranquility for the benefit of the people of Liberia,” the ANC stated, saying the constant attacks on Hon. Kolubah are unbecoming and must stop.
“This recent attack on Rep. Kolubah, an opposition figure immediately follows the unprovoked police action against supporters of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the Liberty Party HQ. These incidents and many others further prove that opposition partisans have no protection under our law,” the ANC further lamented.
The opposition party therefore called on all well-meaning Liberians, leaders and members of other political parties, civil society organizations, and Liberia’s international partners (representatives of UN, AU, ECOWAS, EU and US government) that have worked tirelessly to secured the fragile peace in Liberia to impress upon the CDC-led government to stop these acts of political violence.
“We also call for the conduct of full independent investigation of the situation and put the Liberian government on notice that it will bear full responsibility for any breakdown of the peace,” the ANC declared in the release signed by the party’s National Secretary General, Aloysius Toe, and approved by National Chairman Senator Daniel F. Naatehn.
