Two members of the Bong Legislative Caucus have donated some working tools to citizens of Wolonto Town in Yellequelleh, Bong County, in an effort to support the Government of Liberia’s Pro-Poor Agenda for the rehabilitation and connectivity of roads. The citizens of Wolonto Town in Yellequelleh District #5 have begun constructing over 45 kilometer road with their hands; D. Patrick Tokpah in Gbarnga reports.
The materials were presented to citizens of Wolonto Town in response to the numerous public outcries about the lack of meaningful tools they needed for use to implement rehabilitation works carried out by the citizens themselves.
Presenting the materials on behalf of Representative Edward Karfiah and Senator Henry Yallah on June 8, 2019, the Political Affairs Officer in the offices of Bong County Electoral District #5 Representative, Mr. Lawrence Flomo said the donation was the two lawmakers’ way of identifying with citizens of the Town.
Mr. Flomo assured citizens of the town that the two Lawmakers will continue to work with them in making show that their lives are improve. Some of the materials denoted were shovels, pain axes and others.
He furthered that the development of Liberia can only be done when the citizens are capacitated and prepared to contribute to the development of the country, which he termed a sure way Liberians would take initiatives and responsibility of their own development.
The Bong County District#5 Political Affairs Officer further believes that positive change of Liberia is a process that requires the participation of every Liberian; especially the young people of the country.
He further noted that the donation of the materials will help to reduce some of the challenges faced by the citizens to undertake self-help road development initiatives in the district.
Receiving the materials on behalf of the citizens of Wolonto Town, the chairman of the road project, Nathaniel Vuku, expressed joy over the provision of the tools by the lawmakers, and promised to use the materials for the purpose intended.
The citizens through their chairman Vuku lauded the gesture, and appealed to Representative Karfiah and Senator Yallah to continue the initiative for the overall improvement of Liberia’s struggling roads system.
