Yet to Receive County Development Fund -Montserrado Caucus Clarifies, Demands Accountability of Fund

MONROVIA – The Montserrado County Legislative Caucus has clarified that it has not received its Social Development Funds contrary to pronouncements during the State of Nation Address by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai that all counties had received their portions of the Social Development Funds (SDF).
Members of the Caucus, including Representative Samuel Enders of Montserrado district #6, district #17 Representative Bernard Blue Benson told legislative reporters yesterday that the Caucus had never received any funds for social development.
They used the press briefing to disabuse the minds of their respective constituents about information concerning the SDF and to warn government entities responsible for making this fund available to do so in the shortest possible time.
According to Montserrado County district 17 lawmaker Benson, the SDF is meant for the county and its people to undertake various developmental projects in their constituencies.
“What is more disheartening about the pronouncement by H.E President Boakai is that our constituents’ members are now holding us accountable for the funds we are yet to receive,” he stated, adding the president was misinformed that all counties have received their SDF.
“We cannot sit and allow people to mislead our people regarding the disbursement of the Social Development Funds,” he said further. “Quite recently, we were informed by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning that there was an allotment of 500 thousand United States dollars for Montserrado County by Firestone, but only to be informed later that said amount had been redirected.”
The Montserrado County caucus members called on the Ministry of Finance to provide immediate information on all Social Development Funds remitted to Montserrado County.
“Failure on the part of those responsible to report as requested will leave us with no alternative but to invite all concessionaires obligated to provide information about the Social Development Funds from 2023 to 2024,” Representative Blue said, vowing that the Montserrado County Legislative Caucus would “hold a live public hearing with the Concessionaires obligated to unearth shady deeds”.
He also said the caucus would request the GAC to conduct a comprehensive audit of the amount paid by Concessionaires obligated to the government’s coffers regarding the social development fund.
“Our people will draft and present a petition demanding overdue social development funds,” he warned. “The Caucus will request a comprehensive financial statement of our account from the Bank for 2023 and 2024.”
He said the AAREST Agenda for Inclusive Development aims to alleviate poverty, create an enabling environment for citizens to unlock many opportunities, and massively develop the nation yet individuals in government “have refused to adhere to this quest, thus involving themselves in mismanagement and misplaced priorities”.
“The fact that some counties have received their social development funds, leaving Montserrado county out, proves that corruption is imminent, and this must stop immediately,” he asserted. “Therefore, the Caucus is giving a 48-hour ultimatum to those responsible for disbursing the Social Development Funds to ensure the people of Montserrado County receive their portions.”
