The maxim by former U. S. President John F. Kennedy saying “what can you do for country, and not what your country can do for you” was adopted by a group of Liberian women residing in the United States of America who founded a charity organization group, named and styled Women of Grace International Charity to give back to their country, Liberia; reports Matthew H. Turry.
Accordingly, Women of Grace International Charity-Liberia has already secured two acres of Land in Gbolokata, Sala District in Bong County, where over 150 Liberian children will be stationed and given proper care.
Founded in 2017 in the United States, the group’s aim and objective is to take care of underprivileged children, a reason for which they purchased the land for the construction of schools, clinic, and homes amongst others.
Addressing a news conference over the weekend in Monrovia, the Executive Director of the group, Madam Felecia Garlo said their program is intended to help give hope to disadvantaged children. Madam Garlo indicated that the group settled in that part of Liberia on the basis of the deployable condition the Ebola virus has created on the lives of the teenagers due to inadequate medical facilities.
According to Madam Garlo, when they first went on the assessment they saw children in a very bad state in that environment. She said they found out during that their the assessment tour that the children that areas visited were in need help, noting they right away started to assist them with medicines, cloths, food and other things.
The Women of Grace Executive Director noted that it is there dream to reach out to disadvantaged people to provide hope for them in the society. “There is a need to restore hope in the underprivileged children so that they don’t feel neglected in the society,” she asserted.
At the same time, the Secretary General of the group, Victoria Myers, called for the support of the group by humanitarians, donors, and well-meaning Liberians to better the lives of the kids. She noted that it is challenging to cater to over hundred persons.
The Secretary General of the groups urge all Liberians to support charity in the country, saying “God blesses the hands that give, especially to children.”
Madam Myers noted that their vision is to have a dwelling place for the kids, and that they decided to start from the remote part of Bong County where God directed them to settle. The group, they said, has been operating in Philadelphia and Florida where they sheltered the homeless and fed the hunger.
