What Kills Zenu Miller? -PUL Quotes Uncle Citing Hypertension But…

MONROVIA – The demise of broadcast journalist Zenu Miller at the ELWA Hospital is raising controversy and debate amongst journalists and the Liberian populace regarding cause of his death, with earlier reports attributed to his wife that Zenu’s death is caused by “internal bleeding” while a release issued yesterday by the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) said the death of the journalist, according to his uncle, was a result of  hypertension (high blood pressure), even though the PUL release quoted Zenu’s uncle of declining to make public the Death Certificate.

Zenu Miller, according to reports, fell off over the weekend and was rushed to the Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Although the report did not indicate any access to his death certificate, Zenu’s wife told reporters few hours after his death that she was told at the hospital that her husband died from internal bleeding.

The report quoting Mrs. Miller also said Zenu has been complaining about his chest since he reported that he was flogged at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex where he reportedly went to join his colleagues to do life commentaries of the finals between Nimba and Grand Kru Counties on January 26.

But barely three days after the death of the journalist, the Press Union of Liberia on Monday, February 17, 2020 issued a release quoting the deceased family that the late Zenu Miller, their son, died of hypertension (high blood pressure).

The Head of the Miller’s Family, Mr. Forkpa Miller, told the Press Union that hypertension (high blood pressure) is contained in the death certificate as cause of his death, but insisted, however, that the family has decided not to make the death certificate public to avoid the privately sensitive document from spreading on the social media.

At the same time, the Press Union of Liberia said it has engaged with the Miller’s Family in planning a befitting burial for Journalist Zenu Miller and noted that interment has been tentatively scheduled for the 29th of February 2020.

First general meeting for family, friends, and media colleagues for funeral arrangement in honor of the fallen Liberian Journalist is scheduled for Thursday, 20th February 2020, the PUL release averred.

But some dissatisfied journalists who said they are looking at another options to react to Zenu’s death wondered why family members are declining to make the death certificate public considering the controversy surrounding the matter, question the sincerity of the Miller’s family through the PUL that if the family agrees to come out with Cause of death, why can’t they as well agree to make public the Death Certificate?

Others have said an independent autopsy on the remains will be sufficient proof to validate the latest claim by Zenu’s uncle as reported by the PUL.

In the meantime, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) says it is disgusted about the unabated wave of combustible falsehood, and misrepresentation circulating the social media.

The Union categorically states that it took substantial steps in condemning the alleged flogging of deceased Journalist Zenu Miller- calling for an immediate investigation into the matter.

The PUL release signed by the Union’s Secretary General Musa MB Kenneh, said the Union has been engaging the Security sector including the Executive Protective Service on the alleged brutality meted against its members.

Moreover, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has renewed its call for an investigation into the alleged whipping of the Journalist Miller by the EPS.
