Weah Secures Full Funding For Ganta-Harper Highway -As AfDB Approves Funding

MONROVIA: The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on December 14, 2023, approved the John Davies Town in River Gee County – Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County road construction project, which is 48.5km for US$60.92 million for the Liberia side of the multinational approval.

This road is part of the ongoing construction of the Ganta – Harper road corridor.

The approval is part of a multinational road project benefiting Liberia and Sierra Leone under phase 4 of the Mano River Union Road Construction Facility.

The approval of this segment of the road completes the financing needed to complete the entire Ganta – Harper road corridor, which is also being funded by the World Bank and the European Union.

The Minister of Public Works, Hon. Ruth Coker-Collins thanks President George Manneh Weah for his visionary leadership in not just securing full financing of this important and often neglected road corridor, but also constructing the road beginning with the Ganta-Tapitta segment of the road.

Minister Coker-Collins also expressed her deepest gratitude to Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the African Development Bank and the entire Bank for standing with Liberia on its efforts to foster roads construction and connectivity aimed at ensuring economic growth and development in Liberia and regional trade and integration between Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Additionally, the Public Works Minister also thanks the OFID/OPEC Fund for approving US$20 million for the John Davies Town – Zwedru segment of the road corridor as co-financing with the AfDB. This brings the total approval to US$60.92 million, with the Government counterpart funding of US$1.02 million included.
