VP Howard-Taylor Expresses Concern over Alleged Intimidation of Female Candidate -Calls on NEC to Act swiftly

In the wake of reports that Gbarpolu County Independent senatorial candidate Madam Botoe and her delegation were recently intimidated, harassed, beaten and arrested in Norma Town, Gbarpolu County, the Vice President of Liberia, Madam Jewel Howard-Taylor, has expressed concern over the alleged intimation of the leading female candidate in the senatorial election in Gbarpolu County, and has called on NEC to act swiftly.

According to a December 17, 2020 press release from the office of the Vice President, VP Howard-Taylor also wants the Liberian National Police to do all in its power to ensure that Madam Kanneh is protected.

“The Vice President has meanwhile welcomed statement of solidarity by Women groups, civil society organizations, religious institutions, the media and the general public against the actions meted against Madam Kanneh which has the proclivity to dent our democratic credential and undermine the Nation’s peace and security,” the release stated.

It can be recalled that since Sunday, December 13, 2020, reports started filtering in from Norma, Gbarpolu County Electoral District #3 about a wave of electoral   violence against Independent Candidate madam Botoe Kanneh who was reportedly  arrested by armed men believed to be state securities.

It was also reportedly that the brother of Ms. Kanneh, Cllr. Boakai Kanneh was allegedly ordered beaten by the traditional group in Norman, Gbarpolu electoral district 3.

Already, the NEC has called for a rerun in the disputed four polling places.
