Verbally Brutal Response To EPS Director’s Diatribes -Weah’s Office Speaks to Allegations He Possesses GoL Vehicle
MONROVIA – What seems to be a war of words has ensued between the office of ex-president George Manneh Weah and the director of the Executive Protection Service (EPS) over whether or not the former chief executive is still holding on to government officials despite his exit from the high office. The EPS recharged the debate yet again the other day, and the ex-president’s office is not taking kindly the demeaning way the presidential guard service director presented the matter in the public space. The Analyst reports.
The Office of the Former President of Liberia has agrily reponded to the director of the Executive Protection Service (EPS) accusing the president of holding up a number of presidential fleet since his turn over the baton of power back in January 2024.
Spokesman of the former president said it is unsurprised by what it called the “latest sophomoric, baseless and unprofessional statement from the Director of the Executive Protective Service (EPS), which yet again seeks to distract the public from the dire economic crisis and governance failures under President Boakai’s administration that are causing immense suffering for the Liberian people”.
Former Maritime Commissioner-General Eugene Nagbe said during an interview with a local media organization that “the recent unfounded and irresponsible claim by the EPS Director is a vain attempt to distract from the hypocrisy of President Boakai and his insatiable penchant for luxury”.
“In a feeble and childish move to justify the President’s use of the very luxury vehicles he once condemned, the EPS resorted to false and malicious allegations, claiming that former President Weah took away state-owned vehicles, thereby necessitating new acquisitions,” the former Information Minister also noted.
He clarified that former President Weah turned over three armored (bulletproof) vehicles used during his tenure to President Boakai — one of which was inherited from former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and two procured during his administration, with all in pristine conditions.
“Additionally, 15 brand new Toyota Land Cruisers, which were purchased for the Presidential Convoy between August and September of 2023, were delivered to the Unity Party EPS Director,” said Mr. Nagbe asserted.
According to him, “One of the vehicles currently used by former President Weah—a Lexus, which is the apparent subject of the EPS Director’s statement, is privately owned, with all relevant documentation including registration and shipment records available for verification.”
Had the EPS prioritized due diligence over partisan politics, confirming these facts would have been straightforward. Instead, its leadership has once again demonstrated a conduct unbecoming of a critical security institution.
For almost a year and the half, this administration’s refrain has been the same: blame former President Weah for all its failures.
Nagbe said the Liberian people, however, are not deceived, because according to him, “they demand real solutions—not excuses — under the promised Rescue agenda, something the UP administration has proven incapable of delivering”.
