While other African Presidents are doubtful of diplomatic relationship with the world’s superpower, the United States of America, in a post-Donald Trump era, tidings of reassurance and pleasantries have reached the President and Government of Ghana. President-elect Joseph Biden, whose inauguration is scheduled for late January provided sitting President Trump’s shenanigans don’t turn the table, has reportedly tendered a very welcoming letter to the President-elect of Ghana. Ghana appears to be a favorite of the West in Africa, particularly by the US, due to its solid democratic culture and improved governance. The Biden communication, according to some pundits, could be a wake-up call for other third world governments still far behind in terms of building integrity institutions and perfecting democracy. The Analyst reports.
It has been reported that embattled USA President-elect, Joe Biden, has officially sent a letter to Ghana’s President, Akufo Addo, stating that that he (Biden) looks forward to the two of them working together to deal with the challenges that the people of Ghana and the US are saddled with.
The letter to the Ghanaian letter was published by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, on his Facebook page. The post bearing the letter has gone viral, waking up African leaders and peoples scrambling for US friendship, particularly after the presidency of Donald J. Trump.
In the communication, President-elect Biden wrote: “Dear President Akufo-Addo, thank you for your kind words and well wishes. I am sorry that we have not yet had the opportunity to connect by phone. It is my great honour to have been elected the next President of the United States, and I understand just how much work lies ahead of us.
Continuing, the US President-elect stated further: “Vice President-elect Harris and I will take office at a time of great global challenges – from the coronavirus to climate change – that transcends borders and require international cooperation.”
Biden assured his Ghanaian counterpart that the United States under his leadership looks “forward to working with youth and your government on addressing the common problems facing our countries and our people.”
“Thank you, President Akufo-Addo. I look forward to future dialogue,” he concluded.
