MONROVIA: Political scientists and pundits say there are worrying signs about the Unity Party Boakai-Koung Ticket hovering over the horizon, conjecturing that it is emitting what appear to be dangerous ethnic dimensions—something invoking memories of the civil war. What seems to lend credence to this prediction is a strongly worded stated by the people of Lofa County barking loudly at statements contained in a leaked audio where Nimba County’s Prince Y. Johnson sounds highly ethnically divisive and selfish. The Analyst reports.
As citizens across the country, as well as some stakeholders in the polity, continue to condemn and take exception to a leaked audio attributed to Senator Prince Y. Johnson, some prominent citizens of Lofa County say their attention is drawn to the audio.
The citizens, who include chiefs, elders and youth, said the leaked audio has brought to the fore fears and worries that Senator Johnson has got a hidden agenda to eliminate Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Standard Bearer of the Unity Party if he succeeds to win the ensuing October 10, 2023 general elections.
“The statement from Senator Johnson shows that instead of Nimba supporting Lofa to the Presidency, it is a son of Nimba who wants to use the people of Nimba to assassinate Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Nyuma Boakai who is a son of the county (Lofa),” the Lofans said in a press release, a copy of which is in the possession of The Analyst said.
The citizens said the assertions made in the audio from Senator Johnsons are unacceptable and threatening and vividly portrays a sinister intention on the part of the Nimba County lawmaker for which he is all over Nimba campaigning the Boakai-Koung ticket.
Senator Johnson is heard in the leaked audio saying: “We are fighting for Nimba County to take the lead, and Nimba will win in the name of Jesus. Bassa is with us, Gbarpolu with us, Bomi with us, Lofa with us, Bong County with us; what is your problem and you’re on the radio with me?
“My brother, what have I done? You’ve got to change.” Senator Johnson added. “We’re fighting for you. When you turn to this man [Weah] against our prayer for Nimba to produce the Vice President; This old man [Boakai] is old. He took Koung to be his Vice President. When he wins, isn’t it Koung that would be doing the job for him? Can he go everywhere? No!”
Reacting the leaked audio, the Prominent Lofans said: “Despite our political differences, we are deeply concerned and worried about such a devilish and dangerous plan by a former warlord who is on record for killing the Late Samuel Kanyon Doe, a democratically elected president”.
“While it is true that there has been serious question raised about the declining health status of the former Vice President evidenced by recent minor stroke he suffered and was admitted at the ELWA hospital and was flown abroad, we strongly believe that Boakai’s inner circle is aware that he is unfit to stir the affairs of the country beyond 2023 but are bent on using him for their selfish gains.”
They added: “Now that it is clear that the JNB-JKK ticket is not democratic and about Lofa but rather coup d’etat in the making; we the citizens of Lofa on this day declare the county’s full support to the 2nd term bid of President George Manneh Weah; a man whose presidency has made Lofians to know that power should only be given to those who think about improving the lives of the people and not to selfish politicians who ride on tradition.”
They said their support to President Weah will go at any length to make it successful by giving him a One Round Victory come October 10, 2023.
Meanwhile, to demonstrate their seriousness about disengaging from the presidential ambition of Ambassador Boakai and to support President Weah, Madam Jarweli Jimmy, former Chairlady of the Friends of JNB in Lofa County and who had also presided over 17 different groups and had vehemently campaigned for JNB in 2017 has finally directed her groups to support President Weah’s second term bid because of PYJ’s devilish leaked audio.
