Parliamentary Peers Rise In Defense Of Snowe -Reaffirm Confidence in His Leadership, Love for Country
MONROVIA – Comments by Bomi County senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr. a few days ago on Spoon Talk wishing the ruling Unity Party administration a one-term rule and failure as to pave his way to the presidency in 2029 has apparently recharged enormous nervousness and panic amongst stalwarts and apologists. And perhaps fearing the words of the lawmaker may come true, the administration launched a stark rebuff wrapped in threats, intimidation and bully, leaving the senator in a state of fear for life and image. But his colleagues constituting Liberia’s delegation to the Parliament of ECOWAS have swiftly come to his side, issuing a bipartisan statement not only vouching for Snowe’s standing as a patriotic and upright citizen of the country, but a man of peace and candor. The Analyst reports.
Members of the Liberian Delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament have released a statement saying they take note, and are concerned, with recent public allegations directed at their colleague, Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr. and seriousness of the allegations. They have asked their colleagues in
Liberian Senate to initiate a timely, impartial, and transparent investigation to ascertain the truth of the claims, thereby safeguarding the integrity of our democratic institutions, in accordance with the request made by Senator Snowe.
Despite government’s characterization of Senator Snowe as problematic and destabilizing, the group of senators that include Senator J. Alex Tyler, Sr., Rep. Moima Briggs Mensah, Rep. Taa Wongbe and Rep. Samuel R. Enders indicated that Senator Snowe has consistently conducted himself with professionalism, dignity, and unwavering commitment to the Republic of Liberia. His leadership and representation of Liberia within the ECOWAS Parliament have been exemplary.
Vouching further for the Bomi County Senator, the lawmakers said he has been a strong advocate for Liberia to host an ECOWAS Institution in the wake of the withdrawal of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso from the Community, a move that would serve to enhance regional integration while creating employment opportunities for qualified Liberians
“He has championed infrastructure development support for Liberia within ECOWAS frameworks, reinforcing Liberia’s long-term development objectives,” he said in the statement issued yesterday. “Under his stewardship as Chair of the Committee on Peace, Security, and the African Peer Review Mechanism, the Committee has achieved commendable progress in promoting peace, democratic governance, and institutional accountability across the region.”
According to them, Senator Snowe has consistently championed the benefits of regional integration, notably in the areas of trade, the free movement of people, and the empowerment of youth and women across the sub- region, initiatives from which Liberia continues to derive tangible benefits.
The Delegation said it was therefore deeply troubled by the potential implications of government’s these allegations against Snowe not only on the reputation and service record of Senator Snowe, but also on the broader image and credibility of the Republic of Liberia at the regional level.
The Delegation underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law, due process, and the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise.
“It is imperative that such matters be handled with the highest level of integrity, national responsibility, and adherence to democratic values,” the Liberian ECOWAS Parliamentary delegation further said.
They added: “The Liberian Delegation reaffirms its collective confidence in Senator Snowe’s leadership and remains committed to representing the best interests of the Republic of Liberia within the ECOWAS Parliament and other regional engagements.”
