MONROVIA – President Joseph N. Boakai has arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, to participate in the monumental 50th Anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The celebration marks five decades of regional cooperation, economic integration, peacekeeping, promotion democratic values, and infrastructural development efforts that have significantly contributed to stability and prosperity across West Africa.
According to a press release from Abuja, the president was warmly received on arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport by the Governor, Deputy Governor and Cabinet of Lagos State, the staff of the Embassy of Liberia, led by Charge d’Affaires, Amb. Robert Y. Lormia, II, and other prominent Nigerian government officials and ECOWAS representatives.
The president was accompanied by a high-level delegation representing Liberia’s government, including diplomats, ministers, and key stakeholders committed to the region’s shared vision.
During his visit, President Boakai will engage in high-level discussions with fellow heads of state and government to reinforce regional solidarity, explore new avenues for economic growth, and address ongoing challenges such as security, climate change, and human development.
His participation underscores Liberia’s ongoing commitment to the ideals of ECOWAS and its work toward fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development across West Africa, the release noted, revealing that he is expected to engage in series of bilateral meetings with other heads of State and government officials and engagements with regional development partners and international organizations supporting ECOWAS initiatives.
President Boakai reaffirmed Liberia’s steadfast commitment to the ECOWAS mission and reiterated his country’s dedication to reinforcing regional partnerships. “As we celebrate 50 years of regional cooperation, we look forward to strengthening our collective resolve to build a peaceful, prosperous, and resilient West Africa,” President Boakai stated.
The ECOWAS 50th Anniversary serves as a vital reminder of the progress made and the continuous efforts required overcoming regional challenges. Liberia remains proud to be an active participant in these efforts and is eager to contribute to the continent’s bright future. During the Enactment Program, President Boakai will join other leaders to make a declaration of commitment to regional integration and sign the 50th Anniversary Card.
