P4DP Holds Training Workshop -To Develop and Strengthen Women in Advocacy

MONROVIA : As more representations are being made for the women to participate in politics and take on leadership roles in the society, the Platform for Dialogue and Peace(P4DP) in partnership with the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund(WPHF) through one of its women related flagship projects, Platform for Women Empowerment and Next Level(PLAWOENEL) commenced a 3 day training workshop in Monrovia to develop and strengthen women in advocacy, party politics and campaign planning and strategies and drew participants a number of politics related institutions in Montserrado County.

According to a press statement from P4DP, the institution noted that women’s roles in electoral campaign planning and party politics have been very low overtime and in order to help close some of the gaps, the training workshop is designed to help women leaders to understand electoral campaigning and processes and strategies involved in forming part of party politics.

The program which is being held between June 12-14, 2023, has as a theme, “Enhancing Women Leaders’ confidence to effectively contribute to party politics at electoral campaign planning and implementation. The project is being implemented across Margibi, Bomi and Montserrado Counties ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“This activity is contributing to Output 2.2 of the project (Developing women leaders to be equipped with leadership, organizing and advocacy skills to improve women’s right and political participation for the ‘Next level agenda) by improving the space for women to actively participate in political activities so as to have more women heads of political institutions and women campaign managers”, the release said.

According to Madam Deimah Kpar-Kyne McCrownsey, Project Officer, PLAWOENEL Project, WPHF at P4DP who spoke to our correspondent at the program said the objective of the program is to train women leaders to actively participate in political parties’ activities and to engage in campaign activities as a way to level up in terms of party engagements and having a seat within the hierarchy of the party.

She said as it relates to targeted location and stakeholders, the this activity will be implemented in P4DP three project counties (Bomi, Montserrado and Margibi Counties) with key women leaders including community leaders, district leaders, women led CBOs etc and that the expected results will be 30 Women Leaders confidence built to partake in party politics as well as electoral campaign planning and implementation.

She stated that for facilitation, experienced personalities from  the Gender Ministry and the NEC Gender department and knowledge experts on campaign planning and processes have been invited as key presenters.

P4DP is a leading Liberian non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to research and participatory action activities aimed at strengthening the capacities of State and Non-State Actors to prevent, manage, and transform conflict through collaborative action.
