No Election If….-Team Julius Kanubah Warns

By: Anthony Q. Jiffan, Jr.

MONROVIA – Barely a week to the hosting of the Elective Congress of the Press Union of Liberia, the umbrella organization of all journalists in Liberia, Team Julius Kullie Kanubah for PUL presidency has warned that there will be no election if the requisite authority fails to do a proper cleaning up and publication of the final voter’s roll.

Speaking at a press conference Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the campaign headquarters of Team Julius Kullie Kanubah for PUL presidency on 11th street Sinkor, Mr. Julius Kullie Kanubah said the Press Union of Liberia is a credible institution and as such all of its deeds must be in line with credibility.

Mr. Kanubah said his team will not go to the pending Press Union of Liberia election which is expected to take place this Saturday, November 12, 2022 in Gbarnga, Bong County until their quest to clean and publication of the final voter’s roll is met.

He believes that when a credible election is conducted by the current leadership, his team will come up victorious. “Trust me when they conduct a credible election come what may we will come up victorious”.

According to him, his team has earlier written the committee responsible for the voter’s roll to do the needful and clean the voter’s roll but, they have not been able to inform Team Julius Kullie Kanubah as to the status of their request.

He noted that his team has provided a strategic roadmap which he said should be the setting up of an independent panel to include members of the Publishers Association of Liberia, Female Journalists Association of Liberia, Reporters Association of Liberia, Executive Mansion Press Corps, National Civil Society Council of Liberia and other auxiliaries under the Press Union of Liberia.

Team Kanubah believes that the setting up of this independent panel will ensure the proper cleaning up process of the voter’s roll and help the entire election process to be conducted without fraud.

Mr. Kanubah is at the same time calling on the current Press Union of Liberia leadership headed by Mr. Charles B. Coffey, Jr. to conduct a free, fair, transparent and credible election to avoid confusion among members of the Union.

He said the betterment and forward march of the Press Union of Liberia depends on the conduct of transparent elections which will include the cleaning up and publishing of the final voter’s roll.

Mr. Kanubah is also calling on the elders of the Liberian media to arrest the current situation at the Press Union of Liberia which intends to undermine the credibility and integrity of journalists in Liberia.

Julius Kullie Kanubah also called on his supporters across Liberia to remain in their respective counties until further notice from the team, urging them to remain calm as all effort is being exerted to ensure a credible election within the Union.

For her part, Executive Mansion Press Corps chairperson Denise Nimpson who recently declared her support for Julius Kullie Kanubah said the only way to transform the PUL now is to elect Mr. Kanubah as president of the Union.

She said Julius Kullie Kanubah has the credibility, integrity, qualification, and competence amongst others to transform and improve the Press Union of Liberia and ensure that journalists are respected across the country.
