MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC), on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 turned over 500 Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) Kits to the National Identification Registry (NIR) to enhance the national citizens’ registration.
The 500 BVR kits turning over ceremony follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two government Agencies, the NEC and the NIR.
Speaking at the turning over ceremony at the NEC headquarters on 9th Street Sinkor, NEC Chairperson Davidetta Browne- Lansanah said the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the NIR to transfer of 500 Biometric Voter Registration kits to the National Identification Registry is a milestone achievement for both our institutions.
According to Madam Browne Lansanah, the NEC and NIR over the years has had a protracted period of engagements to support national digitalization and related technological infrastructure for Liberians.
“We should be mindful that both of our institutions remain operable within our individual mandates,” she added, extending thanks to the government of Liberia for providing the funds for the purchasing of 1,150 BVR kits.
The NEC a boss also extended thanks to the staff of the NEC, the donor community, the NIR staff and all who made it possible for the signing of the MOU leading to the collaboration of the two government agencies.
The Chairperson of NEC-Liberia, Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, signed for the Commission, while the Executive Director of NIR, Andrew Peters, signed for his agency.
For his part, NIR Boss Andrew Peters praised the collaboration between the two agencies, and prayed that other government entities can do the same.
Speaking for the government, internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin, congratulated the NEC and NIR for the job well done.
Minister Nyumalin said, such collaboration will greatly reduce government spending at a time when the government was looking for more revenues to support its development agenda.

The MOU between NEC and NIR was witnessed by a number of senior government officials headed by Internal Affairs Minister Francis Nyumalin, and included the Executive Director of the Civil Service Agency, CSA, Josiah Joekie, Governance Commission boss Professor Alaric Togba, the House of Representatives Chairperson on Elections and Inauguration, Representative Romeo Quah. Representatives came from UNDP and the European Union.
