MONROVIA – The Chairperson of the 2025 By-election Steering Committee, Commissioner Leo Barsee Kpangbai, has addressed a wide range of activities for the Nimba County Senatorial by-election, noting that the by-election is on course as budgetary support from the government is expected shortly.
Speaking at a press conference held at the NEC headquarters in Monrovia, Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Commissioner Leo Barsee Kpangbai said there are progress on a day-to-day basis, as both Political Parties and Independent Aspirants have begun processing their nomination packages at the NEC Headquarters on 9th Street in Sinkor.
He noted that the Candidate Nomination Exercise for the 2025 Senatorial By-election in Nimba County began Monday, March 3 and runs to 14 March 2025 at the Commission’s headquarters on 9th Street, in Sinkor.
“All Chairpersons, and Secretaries General or any authorized Executive Member of Political Parties are permitted to pick-up candidate nomination packages for aspirants the election,” he noted, stating that Independent Aspirant must appear in person to pick-up his or her candidate nomination package or send an authorized person at the Commission headquarters in Sinkor.
“The NEC is warning the public, mainly would-be aspirants, to know that absolutely there will be no extension to the candidate nomination exercise deadline of Friday, 14 March 2025,” he said.
According to Commissioner Leo Barsee Kpangbai, the budget for the by-election is nearing approval, even though he failed to disclose the actual amount of the budget.
Commissioner Kpangbai disclosed that a voting population of 307, 256 is expected to participate in the by–election.
The Nimba County Senatorial by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Nimba by-election came as the result of the death of the late Senator Prince Yormie Johnson in November 2024.
