NEC Ends One Day Post Elections Lessons Learned Workshop In Harper

MONROVIA: The National Elections Commission (NEC) headed by its Chairperson, Davidetta Brown-Lasanah concluded a one day intensive workshop in Harper City, Maryland County, on Saturday March 9, 2024 with the objective of discuss lessons learned from the just concluded October 10, 2023 general elections.

The interactive discourse which took place at the auditorium of the Cape Palmas High School brought together participants from across the spectrum of the three political districts in Maryland County including civil society groups, religious community, Joint Security, physically challenged people, the media, among others.

According to our correspondent who covered the program, the Participants highlighted shortcomings and hurdles of 2023 general elections and made several recommendations, ranging from early civic voters’ education, recruitment of poll workers locally, adequate training of temporary election workers the creation of adverse  jingles in local dialects or languages.

Madam Davedetta Brown-Lansanah, appreciated the participants for their role played during the lesson learned interaction, describing the turnout of the participants as cardinal, encouraging and welcoming. She said it was good for the participants to flag cardinal issues of national concerns while promising to  consider recommendations and findings.

The NEC Boss also described the issue of trucking as a major challenge for her institution.  She revealed that the issue of “trucking” will be high on the agenda during the Commission’s regular reviews of the country’s election Laws.

Meanwhile, Madam Lasanah told our Maryland County correspondent that this initiative started in Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties noting that the team after holding similar interactions in Sinoe and Grand Kru counties) will move onward to River Gee and Grand Gedeh Counties also in the Southeast. According to her other teams of NEC are also training in different other parts of Liberia. She said this is the first of its kind for NEC to embark on post Elections lesson learned training.
