MONROVIA – The Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) through a special national convention has unanimously endorsed the second term presidential bid of President George Manneh Weah, stating clearly that President Weah is the most qualified, best suited and most deserving presidential candidate, therefore compelling MOVEE’s support and partnership in the ensuing elections scheduled for October 10, 2023.
The convention was held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the party’s national headquarters in Paynesville, Montserrado County with the representation 75 delegates from the 15 political subdivisions of Liberia. Also in attendance were county chairpersons, well-wishers, as well as executives of the party.
In his opening statement, the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Robert Sammie, said the gathering was intended to provide the platform for political leaders of the party to provide direction for MOVEE in the upcoming presidential and legislative elections.
According to Chairman Sammie, the party on October 9, 2022 met in an executive committee meeting which is the second major decision body, and resolved unanimously to mandate the political leader to provide political direction for the party which is the basis of the convention to have delegates forming part of the decision making.
Speaking at the occasion, the political leader of the party Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemaya, Sr., said he was pleased to see delegates and well-wishers forming part of the Special National Emergency Convention of the new MOVEE for the purpose of finalizing the process of the party direction as it relates to the ensuing October 10, 2023 presidential and legislative elections.
Following his acceptance to serve as political leader of MOVEE, the national executive committee on October 9, 2022 mandated him through a unanimous resolution in accordance with Article 11 section 2(a) to negotiate with any and all political parties whose philosophy and ideology align with that of the new MOVEE and to initiate negotiations and discussions to either form a coalition or an alliance in other to field a single presidential ticket in the 2023 elections considering the fact that on advisement from him as a political leader, the party resolved not to field a presidential candidate in the upcoming October polls.
Accordingly, he officially notified the national executive committee of the party through the national chairman, Mr. Robert Sammie that he was prepared to name the most qualified, best suited and most deserving presidential candidate and political party for MOVEE’s support and partnership in the ensuing elections scheduled for October 10, 2023.
The political leader of MOVEE Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemaya, Sr said as a consequence thereof, this special national emergency conversation was held so that he presents to the esteemed delegates, distinguished partisans and the peace-loving people of Liberia the most qualified and best suited presidential candidate and political party for the new MOVEE to support and partner with in the upcoming October 10, 2023 elections.
He said their decision will be made surely on the basis of MOVEE’s preferred presidential candidate, most suitability, competency and skills, qualifications, and compatibility with shared political ideology philosophy for the best interest of Liberia and the Liberian people, taking into account the current situation and the presidential candidate continue unflinching demonstrated practical commitment to continue growth and development and transformation of Liberia and the Liberian people as evidence by his or her past irreversible track record.
Against the backdrop he said, “I Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemaya Sr political leader of the Movement for Economic Empowerment, I made the decision pursuant to the mandate given me by the executive committee, I hereby declare His Excellency President George Manneh Weah as the most qualified presidential candidate to lead the Republic of Liberia and the Liberian people for the next six years beginning January 2024, and for the new MOVEE to officially join the Coalition for Democratic Change for the purpose of ensuing the reelection of Dr. George Manneh Weah, standard bearer of the CDC.”
At the closure of the Emergency Convention, a resolution was received, endorsed and approved of MOVEE’s decision to formally join the Coalition for Democratic Change and support the reelection of President George Manneh Weah, president of the Republic of Liberia.
