Methodist Young Adult President Welcomes all young Adults back to in-person worship -Urges them to follow preventive measures

MONROVIA – As United Methodist Churches across Liberia will resume in-person worship service the first Sunday in June, the Liberia Annual Conference Young Adult Fellowship President Sis. Mai J.G Paelay has welcome her fellow young Adults back following the long closure of worship centers as a result of the global pandemic COVID 19.

The first female Conference President in a statement release Thursday June 4, 2020 said though Churches across Liberia resumed their regular worship services on Sunday, May 17, following more than one month after the government banned social gathering ordering all Churches, Mosques and worship centers closed, but the Bishop of the United Methodist Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Quire jr. instructed that while the global COVID 19 pandemic was still high the UMC doors were to remain close until the 1^st Sunday in the month of June.

“As President of the Conference Young Adult Fellowship we want to sincerely thank all clergy/ pastors for their online services and prayers during these difficult period. And at the same time as we welcome our members back, we also urge you to observe complete social distancing and ensure that those entering the sanctuary (Churches) should wear face masks”. Paelay stated.

The ban, which was intended to halt the spread of the coronavirus in Liberia and ensure social distancing was lifted by the Country’s President George Weah on Friday, May 8.

The rise of the coronavirus pandemic and the social distancing measures that came with it forced churches to transition to online worship and ministry.

The young people leader Paelay averred that now as the Churches resume to in-person worship, it is not as simple as just staying six feet away; something she mentioned that corporate worship contains physical contact, from passing the peace to passing the collection plate, but said she is hopeful that all health protocols will be adhere to.

She was also quick to inform her colleagues that as a fellowship, they did not record any death as a result of the coronavirus, unless for one of its members Prince Attah who got missing in May and was found dead with parts reportedly extracted from his body.
