MONROVIA – As Liberia ushers in 2026, the Liberty Party has extended warm New Year greetings to its members, supporters, and citizens across the country and the diaspora. Reflecting on the past year, party leadership described 2025 as a period of growth, organizational strengthening, and renewed commitment to democratic principles. Under Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence’s guidance, the party engaged communities, enhanced internal structures, and launched initiatives aimed at empowering young members and promoting citizen participation. Looking ahead, the Liberty Party signaled its determination to build on these achievements, foster alliances, advance policy reforms, and consolidate its role in Liberia’s political landscape. The Analyst reports.
As Liberia prepares to welcome 2026, the Liberty Party has extended New Year greetings to its members, supporters, Liberians at home and abroad, and reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and national development.
In a press statement, Hon. Rugie Y. Barry, National Chairperson of the Liberty Party, described 2025 as “a defining chapter in the Party’s history, our collective struggle for renewal, unity, and recommitment to the values that anchor our vision as a Party and as a nation.”
Barry emphasized that under the leadership of Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, the party undertook landmark activities that strengthened internal structures, deepened grassroots engagement, and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability.
The LP chairperson said the Liberty Party plans to consolidate these gains in 2026 and prepare strategically for future challenges.
“We are not just celebrating milestones; we have rebuilt trust, rekindled unity, and redefined our path toward a brighter future,” she said, adding, that the party will continue building strategic alliances with like-minded political institutions, civil society, and community-based organizations to amplify the voice of the Liberian people.
“At the same time, the Liberty Party will pursue robust policy advocacy, championing citizens’ rights, advancing legislative reforms, and advocating for fiscal integrity, decentralization, and economic empowerment, ensuring that the people’s voices remain central to our governance system,” Barry said.
Reflecting on 2025, she highlighted the Special National Convention in February, which brought together 180 delegates and over 300 observers to adopt a new constitution, elect new leadership, and reaffirm party unity.
She noted that the convention followed a National Reconciliation Retreat held in November 2024, which produced a Joint Resolution that helped bring all concerned parties together.
Barry also cited the celebration of International Women’s Day in March, where over 1,000 women gathered in Monrovia under the UN theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” to honor the sacrifices of Liberian women and promote leadership and collective action.
The Liberty Party also marked its 20th anniversary in May, commemorating two decades of democratic advocacy, honoring the late Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, unveiling his portrait, dedicating a memorial hall in his honor, and naming offices after influential members in recognition of their service.
The party undertook a comprehensive nationwide restructuring process during 2025, strengthening county chapters, modernizing administrative systems, and introducing monitoring and evaluation frameworks to ensure effective program implementation.
Additionally, the Liberty Party launched the LP Scholarship 2025, providing educational opportunities for over 200 grassroots members at universities, colleges, and vocational institutions, Barry said, emphasizing that this initiative aims to empower young members to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s development.
In November, the Liberty Party convened a Special Leadership Retreat under the theme, “Reconciliation, Reform, Recovery and Rebuilding – From Vision to Action.”
The LP Chairlady said the retreat brought together party leaders, stakeholders, diaspora representatives, district leadership, and grassroots partisans to reflect on progress, induct new leadership, and chart a strategic course for the next three years, with particular focus on grassroots mobilization and policy advocacy.
The party also organized Christmas festivities across Monrovia, Buchanan, and district offices, including charity drives, Christmas tree lighting, leadership dinners, children’s parties, and community engagements, demonstrating its role as both a political institution and a community-oriented organization.
Barry extended appreciation to the party’s diaspora structure for its unwavering support, describing it as “a beacon of unity and strength that carried our vision across borders and reaffirmed our collective resolve.”
Barry said, concluding: “As we close the chapter on 2025, the Liberty Party stands renewed, united, and resolute in its mission to serve the Liberian people with integrity, transparency, and accountability. The milestones achieved this year, rooted in reconciliation, restructuring, and recommitment, have strengthened our foundation and reaffirmed our covenant within Liberia’s democratic space.
“As we march into 2026, we do so with confidence and determination, ready to consolidate our gains, expand our influence, and advance policies that empower citizens and safeguard the future of our nation.”
On behalf of Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, the National Executive Committee, the National Advisory Council, and the entire leadership of the Liberty Party, Barry extended heartfelt wishes for a prosperous political year and a Happy New Year to all Liberians.
