Additional good tidings emanating from the government’s high-level trip to Asia suggest that Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti has wooed Qatar to consider long-term investments in Liberia across several key sectors.

A Foreign Ministry release says the appeal was made during a recent diplomatic visit to Qatar, highlighting the growing ties and potential economic collaborations between the two nations.

On September 11, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Liberia issued a statement detailing the high-profile discussions held in Qatar when Minister Nyanti used her visit, primarily motivated by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Queen Mother of the Emir of Qatar, was given Nyanti to deliver a keynote address.

Minister Nyanti also engaged in talks with the Prime Minister of Qatar, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani at which time they both discussed how Qatar could play a pivotal role in Liberia’s economic development through targeted investments.

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs release said Nyanti emphasized the potential for Qatari investment in several sectors crucial to Liberia’s growth.

These sectors include manufacturing, aviation, forestry, and road infrastructure. “We are keen to establish a robust partnership with Qatar that leverages our natural resources and economic potential,” Nyanti said during the discussions. “Investments in mining, agriculture, infrastructure, health, and technology will be instrumental in driving Liberia’s economic advancement.”

Nyanti’s visit also encompassed meetings with representatives from the Qatar Foundation, an organization known for its significant initiatives in health, education, climate change, and agriculture. The Foundation, overseen by Sheikha Moza, is renowned for its programs such as the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) and EARTHNA, which focus on fostering innovation in critical sectors.

During her engagement with the Qatar Foundation, Nyanti explored potential collaborations and joint ventures that could benefit both Liberia and Qatar. “The Qatar Foundation’s commitment to innovation aligns with Liberia’s needs for development in various sectors,” Nyanti noted. “We are excited about the possibility of collaborating on projects that address key challenges and create opportunities for both our nations.”
