JNB, Chinese Ambassador Hold Talks  -Discussion Centers On Relations Between Two Countries

MONROVIA – In furtherance of the desire of China to conduct dialogue with all political parties, civil society organizations and stakeholders in Liberia, the Country’s Ambassador to Liberia, Ren Yisheng paid a courtesy call on Unity Party Standard Bearer, former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai at his Rehab office, Paynesville, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 to hold talks of national significance.

According to a press release from the Office of the former VP, Ambassador Yisheng extolled the cordial relationship existing between China and Liberia and stressed that the People’s Republic of China cherishes the ties between the two nations and that China wants Liberia to remain peaceful as well as remaining committed towards Liberia’s post war recovery program. He also pointed out that China has the capacity to help developing countries.

“The Chinese Envoy spoke of the growing economic ties between China and Liberia which slowed down due to the coronavirus but indicated that his government has relaxed restrictions that will soon see an improvement in trade between the two nations”, the release said

The release further said Ambassador Yisheng further informed the Former Vice President that China has made tremendous progress in Political, economic, and other reforms especially in environmental protection and pollution control under the leadership of Xi Jinping.

In his response, Mr. Boakai said he was glad to receive Ambassador Yisheng at his Offices and recalled the outstanding relationship that subsists between the two countries and people’s and lauded the People’s Republic of China for the landmark projects undertaken in the Country especially during the administration of the Unity Party Government.

The release stated that Mr. Boakai spoke of the Ministerial Complex, the Monrovia Vocational training Center, the University of Liberia Fendell Campus, the upgrading of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex and the rebuilding of the Rural Broadcasting System and Broadcast studios at the head office of the Liberia Broadcasting System, the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital amongst others.

“The Former Vice President praised the resolve of the Government of the People’s Republic of China for feeding over 1.4 billion people with its massive agricultural program.

“He said over the years he has been very close to Chinese envoys accredited near Monrovia and spoke of the many scholarships provided through its embassy for young Liberians to study in that country.

“The two men discussed a wide range of issues mostly around agriculture and infrastructure and committed to holding such discussions in the future for the benefit of the two nations and peoples”, the release concluded.
