MONROVIA – At long last, the much talked-about Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) recruits have graduated from its Training Academy in Foya, Lofa County.
The trainees have been at the Joseph N. Boakai Training Academy in Foya for six weeks undergoing intensive training in immigration formalities.
The LIS new officers’ graduation ceremony was held over the weekend in Foya district, Lofa County.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, used the occasion to thank authorities of the LIS for the successful completion of training of the 517 new officers of the LIS.
“We admonish, implore and beseech you to be loyal to your country and people; focus and wherewithal to accomplish and achieve your goals,” the Minister of Justice encouraged the LIS new officers, cautioning them to always respect their superiors and colleagues in the Immigration service.
Cllr. Tweh further indicated Government’s preparedness to support the LIS in all of its development goals.
Also making remarks during the auspicious occasion, Lofa County Senator Momo T. Cyrus who also serves as Chairman of the Committee on Defense Intelligence and Veteran of the Liberian Senate, told the LIS new officers that they are not only responsible to enforce immigration laws, but to ensure the safety of Liberia’s borders.
The new LIS officers received certificates in various categories ranging from basic immigration formalities to performance.
Acting Commissioner General of the LIS, Honorable Elijah F. Rufus, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Government of Liberia for the support given the LIS during the period of this training, which he deemed necessary to replace those old officers expected to be retired by the Civil Service Agency.
