Hon. Charles Sirleaf Gets Eternal Rest Today -Swarms of Family Members, Sympathizers to Flood Funeral
MONROVIA – One of Liberia’s iconic bankers and renowned public servants is expected to be laid to rest today, June 18, following a potentially jostling funeral service at the First United Methodist Church on the Corner of Ashmun and Gurley Streets from 9.30 am to 11.00 am.
Mr. Charles E. Sirleaf, 68-year son of former president of Liberia, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2024 in the Republic of Ghana. He reportedly died in his sleep.
Earlier yesterday, June 17, 2024, the Book of Condolence in honor of the fallen Liberian statesman was opened after the body was taken from the St. Moses Funeral Parlor for an hour of viewing at the First United Methodist Church on Ashmun and Gurley Streets where a night vigil was held.
Several individuals, including friends, well-wishers and sympathizers used the vigil to pay tributes, except those in the funeral souvenir program.

H.E Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, have been receiving throngs of friends, sympathizers and family.
Even on Saturday, June 15, a night of reflection and review characterized by some of his off-mike singing was held for close friends and family.
Following the Tuesday, June 18th 2024 funeral services at the First United Methodist Church on the Corner of Ashmun and Gurley Streets from 9.30 am to 11.00 am, the mortal remains of Hon Charles E. Sirleaf will be accorded appropriate escort to his final resting place at the Sirleafs’ Jovahn Farm, Todee Junction, Montserrado County.
Amongst many international and nation portfolios he held during his lifetime, the late Charles Sirleaf in 2004 joined the Central Bank of Liberia as Manager of the Debt Management Unit and was subsequently promoted to Director of Finance in June 2006, where he served for six years before his appointment as Deputy Governor for Operations in February 2012, serving in that position until 2019.
As Deputy Governor for Operations, he had oversight responsibilities for the Banking and Finance Departments, the Payment Systems Unit, the Management Information System (MIS) Unit, and the Enterprise Risk Management Unit.
The fallen former Deputy Governor of the CBL also served in other capacities, including as Chairman of the National Debt Management Task Force between 2004 and 2006, with responsibilities for compilation, analysis, and presentation of a comprehensive debt stock (external and internal) of Liberia.
He rose from the post of Manager with the Citizens and Sothern Bank, Atlanta, Georgia to Manager for Banking and Debt Management, Deputy Governor and Acting Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia.
