Foreign Recognition Ticks In For President-Elect -Biden, Xi, Tinubu, Ghana, Others Send Congratulatory Messages

MONROVIA: Winning elections at home is one thing, getting international approbation is another, and is critical for survivability in the global economic and political ecosystem. The lack of it can lead to legitimacy crisis which at times is expressed in harmful mishaps at home. Gradually, the newly elected government, headed by former Vice President and President-elect Jospeh N. Boakai, is now on the pedestal, but it seems early signs are promising because the world two superpowers, the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China, as well as Africa’s superpower Nigeria, and other African countries have already lent some aura of legitimacy to the incoming government with their respective letters of congratulations, as The Analyst reports.

Reports reaching The Analyst indicate that the newly elected Unity Party Government has been recognized by prominent nations and institutions weeks ahead of its inauguration January 2024.

Ambassador Joseph Boakai was declared winner of the November 14 runoff by the National Elections Commission, though a day or two before his main rival President George Manneh Weah had called him up to concede defeat and congratulate him.

Now a number of high profile congratulations are pouring in, according to the office of the President-elect.

In a release, the former Vice President office reported that the US President, Joseph R. Biden, Jr., has congratulated President-elect Joseph N, Boakai, Sr. on his watershed election as President of Liberia.

According to the release, President Biden intimated that the free and fair elections and presidential runoff demonstrates Liberians’ firm commitment to democracy and the ballot box.

According to the statement, President Biden looks forward to working together to continue deepening the solid ties which has long existed between the two nations and people in the hopeful years ahead.

For his part, President-elect Boakai expressed deep appreciation to the United States for continuously standing by Liberia and its people since the founding of the country and looks forward to working cordially with the US in further strengthening and deepening the ties between the two countries. President-elect Boakai reaffirms his commitment to upholding the enriched historical ties which have existed between Liberia and the US.

Also important, another superpower, the People’s Republic of China, has tendered congratulatory message to President-elect Boakai.

The message from XI Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, has been acknowledged by the President-elect of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., who said it was with deep pleasure that he received the special congratulatory message from his brother and friend, the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.

In his congratulatory message, President Xi Jinping expressed his readiness to work with the President-elect, Boakai, to deepen bilateral ties, foster mutual trust as well as strengthen beneficial cooperation between Liberia and China.

The President-elect thanked the PRC for its long years of unyielding support to Liberia and its people.

Ambassador Boakai also expressed his willingness to deepen cordial relationship with the people Republic of China and its industrious people for the mutual benefits both countries have and continued to enjoy.

While thanking the PRC for its numerous supports to Liberia’s development, president-elect Joseph Boakai also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the one China Policy.

The President-elect said he envisaged a new page in the Liberia-China relationship that will thrive to nobler heights.

In a related development, the President-elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., also received a host of congratulatory messages from several African countries.

In his congratulatory message, the Nigerian President Bola Tinubu congratulated President-elect Boakai on his epic winning of the just ended Liberian Presidential election and wished him the best of luck in his service to his country and people.

He praised the Liberian people for conducting themselves peacefully and civilly through their country’s democratic electoral process.

The Nigerian President expressed his willingness to further deepen the cordial relationship between Nigeria and Liberia.

At the same time, the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, also congratulated President-elect Boakai on the momentous winning of his country’s presidential election and wished him the best of luck over the span of his tenure of service to county and people.

He expressed profound happiness that the Liberian people went through their electoral process with a very good outcome and that the will of the people is being respected.

President Akufo-Addo said the Republic of Ghana looks forward to continuing sisterly ties with the Republic of Liberia.

Meanwhile, President-Elect Boakai has also spoken to the leaders of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast, all of the Mano River Union, via phone.

All the three leaders expressed their willingness to work in the interest of strengthening the bond that exists within the Mano River Union Basin as well as consolidating the economic and political ties which have long existed the MRU.
