Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Smith Toby says the Government of Liberia has set July 17-19 for the national dialogue on the economy. The dialogue is expected to bring together political parties, civil society organizations and relevant institutions to a roundtable to find a solution to the country’s current economic quagmire.
“The president wants every Liberian to come to the roundtable and bring all of the expertise in term of what they are thinking about the economy, so that all of us can work together as a country to resuscitate the economy” Mr. Toby said.
He said the Liberian leader is hoping that the July 17-19 economic dialogue, as it is coined, will find solution to some the problems facing the country’s economy. “So the President is upbeat and looking forward to the National Dialogue on economy”.
Addressing a regular presidential press briefing Tuesday, June 18, 2019, President Weah’s Deputy Press Secretary, Smith Toby said the public will be informed as to the details and specific points of discussion, but indicated that the discussion will be centered on the economy of the country.
He furthered that all political parties, civil society organizations and relevant institutions in the country will all be invited to sit around the roundtable that the president has talked about earlier, to work around the situation that has brought the country to where it is with the economy, adding “The president is looking forward to seeing that coming to pass very soon.”
The President, while leaving for Nigeria recently, stressed the need for Liberians to sit around the table to dialogue on issues that are affecting country’s economy. “Today, he has set July 17-19 aside to bring every Liberian to the roundtable to contribute to alleviating the economy problems Liberia faces”.
Toby asserted that the president is awaiting the event when Liberians will find a solution to the situation on the set date on which political parties, civil society organizations and every pertinent group in the country will gather to dialogue on the state of the economy.
Mr. Toby added that the dialogue will serve the good interest of the country when every Liberian turns out and brings to the table their expertise that will help the government transform the economy in the interest of the Liberian people.
