When she became First Lady of Liberia following the ascendency of her husband President George M. Weah to power in 2018, the dream of Mrs. Clar Marie Weah has always been to revive the hope of Liberia’s underprivileged and marginalized groups by providing them quality education, vocational training and rehabilitation. With the construction of a multi-purpose facility known as the ‘City of Hope’ where orphans, street girls and disadvantaged youths would be housed, educated and transformed into constructive citizens, Madam Clar Weah’s dream is bearing tangible fruits.
Situated in Marshall, Margibi County, the City of Hope, which construction is spearheaded by the Clar Hope Foundation, has reportedly reached sixty-five percent completion.
During an inspection tour of the facilities on Thursday, September 10, 2020, Mrs. Weah expressed great delight over the massive progress being made and thanked the contractors for their commitment.
The tour included inspection of various facilities including the academic buildings, theatre, clinic, dormitories and the sports centers.
Beaming with pride, Mrs. Weah appeared optimistic that hundreds of destitute and marginalized Liberians will soon have their hopes revived and their capacities built to reach for their dreams and meaningfully participate in the nation rebuilding process.
Through this immense contribution, Mrs. Weah endeavors to buttress government’s Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development in providing long term solutions to problems including unemployment affecting the growth and development of children and young people.
Upon completion of the multi-million dollar project, Mrs. Weah plans to recruit and fully educate at least 200 girls ranging from three to five years.
According to the First Lady, the City of Hope would also accommodate and provide technical and vocational skills training to street girls and other disadvantaged youths for a specified period after which they will be linked with potential employers.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Weah has expressed gratitude to the Clar Hope Foundation donors including well-meaning Liberians along with local and international partners who believe in her dream for transforming fellow Liberians.
The First Lady is however urging philanthropists and kindhearted individuals and organizations to follow suit by supporting the initiative which would benefit hundreds of Liberians and the entire country at large.
Established by Mrs. Weah in June 2018, the Clar Hope Foundation, an apolitical, non-for-profit and non-governmental organization, aims at creating an equitable society in Liberia for women, girls and children through the provision of quality education.
